Ok,, for all you travelers out there who have been to these lakes which one is better?
I am looking for a nice vacation spot for our family that is within 3 hours of Shreveport, La.
Any ideas?

We were at Lake Catherine Sp last year. Very nice and would go there again, just not in August. There is a nice swim beach close by, plus you can rent a pontoon boat at the marina. The bathroom/shower facilities were clean and well maintained. I don't think you would be disappointed. Try to book early and get a spot by the lake.

I haven't been to any of them but one of my coworkers spends all of his 3 weeks vacation at Broken Bow every year, has been doing this from before I started working with him +20 years ago. They rent a lodge in the state park. (aside, they've got a nice TT but only use that to camp weekends at a local lake).
We've ridden thru the Broken Bow area several time - VERY beautiful area.

We stayed at Broken Bow on the river in a cabin a few years ago and really liked the park. A good restaurant was on site also.
Haven't been to the AR park you mentioned, but wanted to let you know Broken Bow is really nice. We did a little river tubing nearby also.

I'm partial to Broken Bow, but more specifically, Beavers Bend. All three campgrounds Fern, Buckeye and Cypress have views of the river, Fern is a little higher on the river, and you can reserve @ Buckeye, but not at the other two. Buckeye & Cypress are level with the river.

Great fishing spots along the river. You can rent row boats to fish and lots of birds on the banks of the river. Unbelievable beauty and practically no cell (I got AT&T bars, but as extended service, and they get very stingy with the service and will throttle you - kick you off). But this was a chance to turn everything off and relax in the beautiful surroundings.

I preferred Fern because the sites were so large, but Cypress & Buckeye are probably better laid out and more modern.
We'd rather be out traveling, but I still work so we're part-timers.

Degray Lake is nice but it's a long way down to the lake if I recall.

Check out Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs AR. Love it!
