calling all truckers

A typical loaded 18-wheeler will gross 80,000lbs. Good luck.

Not a trucker but it's my understanding most Semi-trailers have a plate that shows the weight capacity. I believe the highway department has a maximum weight restriction for truck and trailer at 80,000 lbs. I've seen full trailers loaded front to back and ceiling high with pallets containing boxes of folded clothes. They hold a lot.

You will need to secure the hangars to the bars otherwise they will end up with a big pile on the floor of the trailer.

The walls can flex. The ride can be rough.
They will probably, end up on the floor. Floors are not clean.
Safer to pack them.
I think U-Haul has hanging clothes packing boxes, I think.
If the clothes are that important, pack'um.

I use to haul clothes like that. Spread your axles as far as possible to reduce clothes on floor,but you will have some on floor

I think he is wanting to know how much "pull" the walls can take if the clothes are hanging from bars or rope attached to the side walls.

Best bet is "wardrobe" boxes from a moving company. Used these many times while moving in the military. Each box is approximately 4 to 5 feet high and has a metal pole that locks into the sides. Clothes can hang but will not fall off the bar as the hangars are held in place by the top flaps. Also, much easier to move the boxes than individual bunches of clothing.



If they remain in good shape after shipping you may even be able to get a partial refund.

I agree with boxing them up but you can have 12,000# on steering axle 34,000 on drive axles & 34,000# on trailer axles for a gross weight of 80,000# which is legal in all 48 states.

But I don't want to read the post, I just want to spout off that I know that trucks weigh 80,000 lbs, and how that can be split among axles. ;)

LOL- thanks all- correct- I was looking to find out how much the side walls could withstand should I hang them from some sort of pipe across the width of the truck- but I think the box solution is much safer

If we are talking a semi trailer and it has e-tracks in the walls we use to run load bars from wall to wall to "deck" the trailer or make a 2nd floor. We have loaded 2,000# or so of pallets (side by side) on two load bars when we hauled rubber/silica. Trailer was grossed out 46,00# in the box. If you hook you bars into the e-tracks it will probably support the weight. The issue is unless you do something to prevent the clothes from hopping or swinging they will be on the floor. If packed tight enough you might get away with it. If you put a square load bar right above your cloths bar it might lock them on the clothes bar.

If you tied your clothes bar to the e track bar you might support it and lock the clothes in place.

It's true the trailer trucks can weigh 80k. It's also true that you can get a traiuler to hang things in. MANY trailers are carrying "Hanging" meat, and if they can handel half a cow haning from the cieling, Clothes will be no problem. Of course, Hanging meat, makes the trailer sway some.
