I'm staying at a local campground for Labor day. Very nice campground but they are a first come park no reservations. It's not unusual for people to look at your registration card to see when you are leaving.

The DNR and campground host came by last night and pulled all registration cards off the site posts. Two campers had stick homes broken into and its believed thieves got their home address off the registration cards.

Both live in the same city near here but not close to each other.
Neither stored camper at home and didn't know each other.

The cards will be changed so home address is removed.

I make sure my address isn't out just as one less thing. With the ease of communication, I wouldn't be surprised to see local gangs communicating with each other to find places to hit. In a rural area, that isn't a problem, however in urban areas where the police are underfunded and stretched extremely thin, I can see one group of criminals sending victim addresses to another group in return for a few Bitcoins tossed in their direction after the heist.

If I ever be come that paranoid,
I will stay home!..
We are lifetime residents of our small,
under ten thousand town.
everyone knows that we have wintered in Florida
for many years.
About this time, everyone starts asking, "when are you leaving for Florida?"

We take no special precautions, turn down the heat,
lock the door and go!
Life is short,Death is long,
Take a vacation.

that's what typically goes on cards at most places we stay. Often it doesn't even have the Last name, just checkout date.

The NF CG's we stay at don't put all that on the site post cards, just name & dates. The card with all the other info stays in the attendant station.

Over the years we have been to numerous campgrounds that when the form was filed out, info, address etc. didn't copy thru to the copy that went on the post. We always blanked out the address if it did transfer especially if we were camping locally.
