Camping at Sno-Parks?

Has anyone ever stayed overnight at a sno-park lot during the summer? Is this allowed? I have done a lot of searching and can't really find anything...

Thanks
  • I have spent the night at many sno-parks in WA prior to backpacking trips. I have not been ticketed. Nor have there been "no overnight" signs. At the time I was sleeping in a tent next to my car, nothing stealthy about that.

My experience only, and not a guarantee that you won't have problems.

i inquired at a ranger station and was told no overnight parking in the sno-park areas but can not be sure sure she knew what she was talking about.
the only reason i inquired was there was a couple of trailers and 3 or 4 cars the looked like they had escaped from a homeless camp in one and looked like planning to be there for the summer.

well I can say positively that overnight parking is allowed at least under some conditions. As mentioned there are several motorcycle events staged out of sno parks on mt hood in the summer. and a large number of entrants camp overnight or for the weekend for the event at the sno park. Now they may have a permit, but it is allowed under at least some conditions.

I wouldn't be suprised if technically there is an 8 hour limit.

  • well, in oregon, there are several dual sport motorcycle events I have gone to where the staging area was a sno park pullout on mt. hood. lots of us camped over the weekend every year. But that may have been covered by the permit.

Otherwise I'm going to guess the rules may be similar to a rest area, with the max stay of whatever oregon allows, I think it is either 8 or 12 hours.

In the summer you don't need to worry about a sno park permit. that I do know.

My son works for ODF, I'll ask if he has any info.

    Other info (Oregon)

    Permit information:
Sno-park permits can be moved from one vehicle to another.
You can use California and Idaho Sno-Park permits in Oregon.
You can use Oregon Sno-Park permits in California and Idaho.
You may get a fine for parking in a Sno-Park without a permit.

To me it looks like Oregon sno-park open during sno season and other times I can't find info.

Exactly, there is no info on it I can find...
