Camping World makes it right but only after some pushback
Needed a new fifth wheel hitch so looked on CW’s website. Seen a Pro Series 15k that would work for me. I called the retail outlet not far from me to inquire if they had in stock.
The parts guy said they did but when he gave the price it was $130 more than the online price. When I told him this he asked again which hitch I was looking at online.
When I told him he checked again and came back and said that they didn’t have that hitch after all. They did have a 16k hitch for the price he quoted. We had a trip planned soon and didn’t want to cancel so I said I would take the bigger hitch.
I did ask if my rails would work with the new hitch. He said they should but to bring truck and check. If not they had rails available. I go and he brings out two boxes, the legs in one and hitch in the other. I took a leg and it fit my rails so I paid and was on my way.
I installed without really looking at front of the hitch itself. It’s only after that I see the label on front of hitch. Pro Series 15k. WTH? I go back online and compare picture of the cheaper hitch with the one I got. Identical. CW is closed by now so can’t call.
I look at the labels on the two boxes and notice that another label had been put over original one. The new label says Reese 16k. It also says 1 of 3 boxes. It lists the part
numbers for the legs, the hitch, and the rails which I didn’t need or get. I went online to another hitch supplier and put in the hitch head part number and sure enough, the Pro Series 15k picture came up. It’s then I realized that what they sold me instead of a 16k
Hitch was the 15k with rails included. That’s why it was $130 more.
I drove back the next day and talked to the person that sold it to me. I explained
the issue I had but wasn’t getting thru to him. He was telling me that ya it was a 15k hitch. The 16k on the box meant that it COULD handle up to 16k. He said I would have to talk to the store manager about refund but since it was a Sunday he was not there.
Only 15 mins away so no biggie. Go back and explain again the issue to manager.
He admits that the box was mislabeled but they can’t be responsible for that. He said he would go find me the rails that I had paid for. No no no... If I would had known I was not buying a 16k hitch but instead the 15k with rails I didn’t need for $130 ,I would have canceled my weekend trip and ordered just the hitch online. He then says he would take it back which I said Ok, I have it outside in my truck. He then takes my receipt back in his office and comes back a few minutes later and says they will just refund me the difference. Thank you.
