I am new to this site. I have a question regarding my 2007 tundra. I have a 5.7L, v8 double cab with a tow package. I am looking at buying a 2015 Dutchman Aspen trail 2780 rls. Dry weight is 6560 pounds, cargo wt is 3120. Also holds 52 gal water, 42 gal gray water, 42 gal black water. Is this too much for my truck.

Please help. I am new at this

I tow my 8000# Toy Hauler with my 08 Tundra 5.7 no problem, and have been doing so for 8 years.
More like 9000# with my stuff in there.

You will be fine.

You will be fine. I am 7200 lbs loaded and no issues. Just put all your gear in the trailer. Payload on a double cab should not be an issue but it will be close. As for the hitch rating it's not a problem as they are rated for about 10,000 lbs or just over. Per the owners manual you will need WD hitch over 5000 lbs and 500 lbs tongue weight.

I'm pulling 6,500 lbs. with my Tundra and it's a great combination. I think as you hit the 7,500 lb. mark or so, you'll be OK on the flatlands but major mountains will show that you are at the upper limit. Make sure that you have LT tires on the truck, not P rated tires. I know that from experience! P tires will flex too much. Go with a good WD hitch and as advised by others, don't put too much weight in the truck bed. As you acquire gear that will be stored in the trailer, go for lighter weight products as it doesn't take long to add quite a bit of weight. As a rule, I never travel with more than about one third of a tank of fresh water and the black and gray tanks are empty.

I towed our old Sunline a few times with our Tundra. It weighed somewhere in the 7,500 lb. range and then we traded it in for our Winnebago. Reducing the weight by a thousand pounds or so was quite noticeable, especially in the hills of Ohio. If you plan to do a lot of traveling, especially in the mountains, you may want to consider a lighter trailer. We went out west last summer, and our Tundra/Winnebago combination handled the Rockies very well.

Payload is the biggest factor! However I would do it without worry!. An 07 Tundra with the 5.7 is very capable. Pack smart and you will be fine.

It will pull it no problem, plenty of power and gearing, but as mentioned you need to watch the payload. Just 2 in the truck? you should be ok. Four linebackers and a bed full of wood? Not so much.

A little over payload won't kill it either but stay below the axle and tire ratings for sure. For comparison, I towed my current tt at 7600lbs with an '07 crewmax. Pulled great ( better than my current Ram 2500) but with the family on board we were 300lbs over payload. I did upgrade tires to E rated.

So I estimate 7500 pounds loaded for a long weekend, more if you have full fresh water tank. That is 900-1000 pounds of TW. That's really pushing the limits of the more capable half tons. You can confirm your receiver rating and payload on the tire and loading sticker. Since you are looking at a RLS, I'll assume it is just you and a spouse, not a large family. Take the payload available, subtract off weight of you and spouse, another 200 for a bed full of stuff. It's probably tight. You should confirm it has the HD towing package, 4.10 axle for 2WD or 4.30 for 4WD. Should you do it, get a WDH with integrated sway control and proportional brake controller. It's 9 years old, so flush all the fluids too.

Payload will be your biggest limiting factor. Check your door jamb sticker to find out what yours is.

But assuming a 8,500 pounds loaded for camp and a12% tongue weight, you'll be around 1,000 pounds at the tongue. It's possible your hitch may not even be rated for that weight. That will give you a starting point and a realistic idea if the Tundra can tow it.
