I agree with rseymour21. I will let any trucker know when they can pull in, and yes they have done the same for me.

My brother is a trucker and there are several others in my circle of friends and acquaintances, and to a man they hate RV,ers with every fiber of their being. We are either slow and in the way,or driving on the ragged edge with barely adequate equipment. There are way to many wanna be truckers driving an RV. You are not a trucker and never will be,you do your thing and let them do theirs. I don't do it don't expect it.

This is very very sad! I'd say more but I'm sure it wouldn't do any good!

PS - I have never wanted to be a trucker and my equipment is in great shape.

Knowing when your clear is what mirrors are for. I think its more of an acknowledgement that you have been passed and are not going to accelerate. Usually that works out fine. I hate it when I move over to the left to let someone on the road and they (including trucks) speed up and leave you hanging in left lane.

I drove truck for many yrs. I always let a trucker know when there clear, even when I'm in my CRV. If so trucker hates me with every fiber of their being because in towing a camper, let them. I'll still signal letting them know there clear.

I flash even when not towing. Being the son of a long haul trucker I know what those guys and gals go through every day to make a living. Being courteous can be contagious. If a trucker doesn't flash back a "thank you" I don't get bent out of shape over it. Most of those trucker folk are appreciative.

I would never rely on another person to determine when it is safe for me to pull back in after overtaking. That is my responsibility only. 'But officer the truck flashed his lights so it must have been ok'

A truck driver has a lot to keep track of while operating in traffic. I drive a straight delivery truck for a living in a mix of traffic conditions. I flash any RV or truck when passed or they want to change lanes to let them know I see them and will let them have the space in front of me. It is what I consider part of MY driving skills to communicate with others on the road. As with anything in life, there is some good and some bad. I choose to be the good.

On a two lane road move over slightly so you can see around the lower car in front of you.

If someone is coming get back over and stay back from the car in front of you at a safe distance.

If no one is coming start building up a little speed. But, be very carefully at this point because you are moving faster then the car you are following be ready to brake hard at any moment!!

When you get close enough to the car in front of you peek out again. If someone is coming brake hard and get back to a safe distance.

If there is no one coming, signal, pull out into the left lane. Make double sure you have enough distance to complete the pass and then GO!! This is the most unsafe part of the passing procedure so put the pedal to the metal and get your a** moving.

If you are driving a automatic just be careful when the car downshifts that if the rear tires break loose keep it under control. :B

When you get safely in front of the car you are passing, signal, get back into the right lane take your foot off of the gas and cost back down to the speed you want to be at.

Just like with any profession, there are good professional truck drivers out there and then there are idiots out there driving big rigs. When I fuel up at truck stops I will speak to truck drivers and have found 80% of them to be friendly, some are not.

If a trucker is passing me at a slow rate and holding up a mile of traffic I slow down so they can get past me and in front. Why don't they do that for each other?

I ask myself the same question when 2 or 3 trucks are running side by side up the road blocking all lanes of traffic so one can go one MPH faster then the other.

I used to give truckers all the courtesy on the road I could but anymore they are just as bad as anyone else on the road. I have no problem leaving them hanging on a steep grade or fighting to merge as they show very little courtesy they once showed. Funny how truckers talk all big about being the life blood of the nation and if trucks stop the goods stop, ya well they forget that if they stop there pay checks stop and if a more economical way to move goods comes along then truckers will be a thing of the past. But I guess you have to have something to think about all day while setting in the seat driving down the road.
