Come on over for campfire coffee

A good cup of coffee around the campfire or early in the morning is one of the things I enjoy most about RVing. Everyone has their favorite coffee, and their special method of making it while camping. Tell us about your's - what brand of coffee do you use, is it brewed over the campfire or on the cooktop, in a french press, an old black pot or a shiny new perc...
(Let's not make this about brand bashing eg. Starbucks vs Seattles Best, etc) just tell us what makes your cuppa really special.
Myself, I use Kirkland beans from Costco (roasted by SBux), I grind the beans using an electric grinder plugged into a little 12 volt inverter, and perc the coffee in a Cabela's 9 cup stainless percolator on the RV cooktop. The aroma in the RV is marvelous!
Lets hear it from you all, what's your methods and preferences? Maybe we can get together around the campfire for a really great cup of java!

Folgers classic made with the drip coffee maker. However - the Community coffee brewed where I work is great. It is made in large drip coffeemakers.

I'm not real particular about the brand or grind. Lately it has been Maxwell House. When we are camping we use a Coleman stove top drip coffee maker. It does a good job and does not take too long. It makes a good back up in the house if the power is out as we have a gas stove. We like the Coleman so much we have given it as gifts to all of our family members that camp. It has been good to us for several years now.

After serving in the USAF I've gone from placing a steel thermos of black G.I. issue coffee on the manifold of my vehicle to the "fancy brands" of coffee & I think I have matured my taste buds to the following coffee.

16 ounce mug
filled with hot black coffee
some creamer ( universal antidote )
some sweetener. :W

Large coffee pot almost full of cold water
Bring to a rolling boil over open fire, stove top, grill etc.
Drop in 4 heaping large spoons of coffee grinds.......brand doesn't matter
Slap on lid
Move to less heat area and let simmer for 10 minutes.

Pour cup of water around/over top to settle grounds

Pour a big mug
Enjoy straight like coffee was meant to be drunk

This was granddads recipe.he also threw in a little egg shell.
Have you ever heard of this?

Egg shells, a little more coffee grounds, etc. etc.
Anything works......what you are doing is breaking the surface tension and causing grounds to settle.
I use cold water cause it sinks quickly taking grounds with it and slightly lowers coffee temp from boiling to drinkable.

When my dear old Dad would take me camping (not RVing) some 67 plus years ago, he follow a similar recipe/routine. He'd be the first one up in the morning and rekindle the camp fire and get the coffee going. Fill the big ole pot with water and add a couple of hands full of coffee, coffee was coffee and the more the better. Put it on the open fire and kick back and enjoy a beer while waiting for the brew to start. Near completion toss in the egg shell to settle the grounds, if we had one handy.
Kicker was - next day same routine. But no emptying the coffee pot. Simply add water and a couple more hands full of grounds and we're good to go. Heck, we're CAMPING!!! Mom would have to sneak the pot to the side to empty it, just to make room for more water. Got pretty stiff after a week. Gosh, what great times!!! Never had coffee that same since.
Our 2351D Phoenix Cruiser, Jack, has turned us from campers into RVers and loving it!

We also like the Costco coffee, my wife blends half and half, regular and decaf. We both like to drink coffee, sometimes even have some in the evening...

Around the camp fire I make Boy Scout coffee (one old guy called it cowboy coffee) and actually like I better that drip, french press or even perk. I use my perk pot without the basket, fill with spring or well water, then add coffee grounds and boil until the desired darkness. I also add cinnamon and a pinch of salt. While the fire is burning and the coffee is boiling I put a stick of hickory or oak wood in the fire let it burn down some then stir the coffee with the burning stick, and pour the coffee through a strainer. The charcoal from the wood adds a distinctive taste but not the strong burn taste of Starbucks.

Now THAT sounds interesting! I may just surprise my wife one morning! I've gotta remember this one!

Used to be a coffee snob...only Starbucks...but we went dropped back to Maxwell House and now drink the Classic made by Harris Teeter. Only about $5.50 for a can and is pretty darn good. At home, it's the drip. We had a drip and Keurig in the motorhome, but drought those out. We either use a Melitta pour over cone and electric kettle while camping or a french press now. Actually the french press isn't in the motorhome any more. The Melitta cone was less than $5 and made of plastic, so no worries of breaking. And the electric tea kettle is stainless steel and takes up less room than the keurig...if the electric kettle goes bad, then we can heat water on the stove and make. We also do it this way if dry camping.

Have Keurig at home using the grey holder with screen basket so we can brew whatever we grind.

Found used Keurig at GoodWill store for $20. Brought home, cleaned and it works wonderfully in fiver. Also have stainless pot for either campfire or gas stove.

We also enjoy roasting our own green beans when boondocking for something extra to do. Grind by hand with an old wooden grinder that has drawer.

Good coffee is EVERYTHING!!! (I think)
