I am quite surprised at the lack of Mexican news re the Virus. Have any of the xpats on this forum seen any news? Maybe Chris or Navegator. I expected the IMSS to publicize information and best hygiene practices. We only get US TV so wonder if the Mexican channels and radio are informing the public. In other news we can expect Pemex to really go bankrupt with the price of oil tumbling.

That's what we should all be praying for.

The Mexican news media have been indicating what the symptoms for the COVID-19 are and what to do about it, so far there are few cases in comparison to other countries, one thing that the doctors here stress is to only use a face mask if you have a cough, they do stress wash, wash, wash hands and use hand sanitizer and do not shake hands do the abrasos or cheek kisses or touch the face it is now the shoe shake "saludo de zapataso".
The worst place to obtain news is from the United States media outlets, with the amount of disinformation and out right lies from the WHO and the CDC trying to straighten out the facts the media are completely at a total loss, I watch and get the news from several news out lets from Mexico, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, England and the Middle East, in German, French, Italian and in Spanish and English and yes I do understand them since I do speak Swedish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and obviously English and Spanish.
You have to remember that the US media tend to over sensationalize everything and repeat the same stories over and over, the worst place to get your information is from the tweety, chirpy and you-tuby and all those on line chat rooms.
Yes so far the Mexican government is disseminating the correct procedures, they have over the weekend informed the public in general what to look for and what to do in an official way, without panic or fear for the public.

Let us hope that this will not spread more

So wash your hands a lot and if need be have special place where yo can deposit all the purchases and wipe them down with a mixture of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda (arm & hammer) and let them sit for a couple of hours or more before storing and the frozen ones wipe and dry with disposable towels and place in the freezer, and wash all fruit and vegetables with dishwasher soap and dry and do not buy strawberries they have to many nooks and crannies to wash properly.

Pasen un buen dia y no se preocupen demasiado.

Maybe the Mexican press/media has it right by not overhyping the virus. Take common sense steps such as washing hands, donโ€™t touch or be touched by people you donโ€™t live with. If eating out use hand sanitizers after using restaurant dinnerware.

There are six confirmed cases in Mexico, all in people who returned from Italy.

We read the Mexican newspapers daily.
