de-mousing

so the %^$# critters got back in the trailer and left some presents... any special cleaning instructions on how to really make sure I clean everything in the camper as best I can? I was planning on taking everything out and wiping everything down with bleach/water. Just wondering if any special instructions since it's mouse poop/urine. (other then wear gloves and don't breathe too much in)
  • First, don't over stress about it.
Yes to using bleach/water...get a spray bottle.
I empty my drawers and wash cooking utensils and silverware, etc if mouse sign is in the drawer. Same with drawer of tea towels. I've never seen any sign in the bathroom cabinet.
All drawers and places with mouse sign get sprayed and wiped with bleach/water.
The rest of the rig gets cleaned as usual, vacuum, duster and mop and wood polish.
  • Make sure the visitor is gone! They don't always visit temporarily and leave.

Put out a snap trap or two in the back of compartments where you saw signs to permanently evict them!
  • I'd be glad to help you with a cat or two or more if you need them. They are great mousers
  • Ours died in the heater, so we had it professionally cleaned and sanitized. Baked rodent **** and urine Smell's.
  • FIRST Google Hantavirus. USE a P-95 mask. Spray with the bleach water all areas where they may have peed, not just pooped, and use a P-95 face mask in the trailer until you have sanitized all floor, cabinet, vent spaces, etc. where you may get dust into the air by cleaning/walking/using a fan, etc.
  • I also recommend snap traps, namely the "Jawz" brand, because the trigger pedal is so wide. Done right, you don't even need to bother with bait -- just place on the paths where the vermin path.
  • I had signs of a mouse in my camper this winter, got 4 snap traps and used chewed up tootsie rolls on the trigger mechanism... Got the little bugger within 12 hours of seting the trap! They love tootsie rolls and when they try to pull at it, it setsoff the trap! They cant just lick it off like peanut butter, or snatch it and run like cheese
