Depreciation table or formula

Looking at used Winnebago aspect. The 2007 sell for 40k and 2008 are 60k. There was a model change in that year; newer Ford frontend at least.

What is the typical depreciation? Trying to figure out my real cost if I buy a 2010 to 2008 and resell in 2-3 years.
  • This is not a dep. schedule but is a real life expierence. I kept the MH for 40 mo. so it fits your expectation of 3 yrs. I posted this in Aug. 2013.

Sold my Class A this week. Thought I would give a report on expenses to any newbe thinking of doing as I did. I purchased the MH, a 2005 Holiday Rambler Ambassador 36PRT, 40 mo. ago. It had 14,000 miles on it and was in great condition. I paid $100,000 for it cash. This was below NADA wholesale at the time. In 40 mo. it depreciated $29,000 to $71,000 which is above NADA wholesale. In the 14 mo. I spent $7,000 on fuel, $2,700 on Insurance, $2,500 for tires, $400 for wheel alignment and ride height setting, and I did not keep up with the cost of oil chg, filters, etc. as I did all the work myself. During the 40 mo. the MH was never at a Service Center or Dealer. I did not keep up with campground expenses. This figues out to $2.97 per mile or $1050 per month. I am very pleased as I traveled alot of the country and met alot of people. Just want to make RVer's aware, purchasing a newer MH is not cheap. I am sure many do it cheaper, but they did not have more fun than we did.
  • I've found over the years that NADA, BB are only useful for "average" numbers and not reliable for actual value of cars/trucks and I'm sure the same would apply to rv's.
  • the depreciation curve I use for buying from new to salvage that seems to work fairly well on almost all types of RV’s… MSRP minus 20% absolute minimum discount up front… (28% discount from new, first year depreciation 10%
a new left over is a 2 year old trailer…
    condition is always a factor for a +/- factor…

Then end of year – approximate depreciation using the 20% discount…
    1 - 18%
    2 - 10%
    3 - 7%
    4 - 6%
    5 - 6%
    6 - 5%
    7 - 5%
    8 - 4%
    9 - 4%
    10 - 3%
    11 - 3%
    12 - 2%
    13 - 2%
    Salvage Value, based on condition…
Nothing official, just my own scale I have used…

    Your mileage may vary...
