We usually leave the bedding (in plastic bags) and the crockery and cutlery. I put a 1500W oil-filled radiator in the space between the shower and toilet and control it with a digital plug-in thermostat. I leave the outdoor transducer from an indoor/outdoor max/min thermometer on the dinette table and monitor the temp on the base unit in my office.
Despite the t/stat bottoming out at 45F, the system seems to keep the inside at about 37, regardless of how cold the ambient outside is. A "Kill-a-Watt" monitor showed an acceptable amount of power being used over three months for the past two winters.
