I know a few people have done this on their own by cobbling the parts together and self engineering. Now there is a ready made system to stop wasting the fresh water while waiting for hot water in the shower.The manufacturer claims that some new RVs will have the system installed by the factory.In brief, it diverts the shower water back into the fresh water tank until the hot water reaches the shower head. We just put the water into a small bucket, then warm it up and use it to shower with with the nozzle off.

I can see the ugly variable is routing the return line to the non-pressurized fill side of the tank. In my class A I don't see how I could do it.

We conserve water on most all of our outings, but since our water heater is about 5 feet from the shower, doesn't seem worth it to save for re-use. Maybe 12oz of water.

I watched each of the videos. The first one makes it seem much easier than it is, as it doesn't show the install of the return line. Also, the more detailed video actually shows the guy cracking his shower stall liner as he drills the hole, but the video simply ignores that fact. This may be a worthwhile item for a full-timer without full hookups. But for the rest of us, saving water in a bucket is way easier and really isn't much of a burden.

Since I already use a pitcher to catch the unheated water and use it for dishes, or something else, the only way to save more water would be to not shower at all. RichH

Another advantage to owning a 20 foot TT. The water heater is only 13 feet from the shower. I only waste about a quart of water.

And, I am just a weekend camper. I often go the whole weekend without taking a shower. I just jump in the lake. Or, I take a sponge bath.

Winterizing that looks like a pain in the tushie. I'll keep my bucket and use the cold water for other uses.

Has been around for a long time, I first heard of it over a decade ago.. (When I got this 11 year old Rig) if not sooner.

The best systems do not return the cold water to the supply tank as this one claims to do, THey return it to the cold water pipe just before the water heater.. That way the formerly hot water which has cooled does not wind up in your drinking supply but is simply re-heated. There are reasons to do this.

Also if on city water returning to supply tank will cause overflow.

I put a tee, then a valve in the hot water supply line under the bath sink. Then I ran a hose to the fresh water tank vent hose connecting with a Y. With this setup, I can save the water as well as supply heat, during freezing temperatures, to the fresh water tank and plumbing between the water heater and the bath. Yes, I have a simple heating "system" for the underbelly, but it is not very effective. Since my water heater is quite a distance from the bath it was worth doing.

I just use the hot water faucet in the bathroom every morning while I brush my teeth. By the time I am done, maybe using 12 oz of water, the warm water reaches the faucet. The shower is ready to go. The shower is right next to the bathroom sink.

Does it get any simpler then that?

Yeah, and I like the part about telling that since you can't see what is behind the wall he shows it on a piece of board. No mention of the fact you have to get inside the wall to install the pipe and connections he shows on that loose board. Or the fact that you must somehow even have access to the back of that wall.

I agree with above. Factory install maybe. DIY, you better look before you leap.

That is the most cobbled up device I have seen in a long time. First it looks like a kindergartener designed it. No escutcheon plate makes it look cheap. The guy doing the install can't drill a hole or use pliers correctly. Never drill a hole that big using a bit in a shower, use a hole saw or it will crack.
