The above is true for tow dollies with a pivot plate. The acme ez tow has no pivot plate, so you have to ensure the steering wheel is unlocked.
Towing the Avalon should be fine. I would call Acme for answers to your questions - DocHammerExplorerThanks for the info. I will contact Acme and see if they have some advice. The local Toyota dealer doesn't really seem to know. Their position is "do anything unusual and you're asking for trouble".
- CampinghossExplorer IIWe use the Acme dolly as well. While it is not a Avalon we tow a Highlander. As long as you turn the key to off and not the acc position and leave the key in the ignition the wheel does not lock. Our wheel does not lock until you pull the key out. As you know already it has to be front wheel drive only and not AWD.
We have well over 10 k towing miles so far with not one problem on this highlander. - TyroneandGladysExplorerTake the key out and try moving the steering wheel that is what feels like locked. Now try with the key in or in accessory mode and you should be able to tell the difference. I have a routine right before I get in the drivers seat of the RV I do a walk around and one of the things I check is the movement of the steering wheel of the toad.

The OP will have a hard time getting the key out since it's pushbutton start. No keys.
