Dometic Fridge Question

Greetings all ,I have been RV & camping for a number of years and I've owned a number of RVs and refrigerators ,so this one is kind of an odd issue for me.


My new to me fifth wheel has a Dometic Fridge ---I'm not sure which model number it is ,but it's the one with the probably five different temperature settings on the front panel of it .

You set Cold to coldest--- anyway have had it running about a week or so and my issue is that I've got a lot of frost on the top of the refrigerator already--- maybe quarter to half-inch(in freezer compartment top), and about an eighth of an inch of frost on things individually in the frigerator....(freezer).. I've never had this issue before with my other fridges?????


I ran the fridge for a long time --like all summer then I get a little frost on the top edge of the plate or whatever , but this one that whole top inside the freezer part is like I say about maybe quarter to half inch of frost on it and all the items in the freezer individually have frost on them --any ideas????

Should I put one of those small powered fans in there ??? or what's going on?? This is a new one to me it is cooling great ,temperature is a good ,temperature in the refrigerator part is good---- it's frosting way way way too fast --never had one Frost before.

Any ideas.....??????

Yup, high humididty will do that.. These are NOT frost free units, you have to defrost them from time to time.

If there is no food in it Simply turn it off and prop the doors open..
Make sure the DRIP TUBE on teh outside extends out one of the vent holes so it drips on the ground not the power connections board.

Put a towel in the freezer (on the bottom) to absorb melt (bath towel, clean)

Then when dry wash with baking-soda water and restart.

IF there is food in it.. Transfer to one or two chest "Coolers" (picnic coolers) or transfer to sticks and bricks fridge till defrosted.

I have a second freezer in my RV so I just eat it down a bit and then defrost, Likely around the 22nd of the month (pay day is just after that).

One thing you need to check is your door seals.. If the door is not sealed it ices up faster.

We had the same issue and it was the rubber gasket not sealing properly. We now have a new door under warranty.

Sounds like it does need to be adjusted.

last fridge if you shut the door good on the freezing compartment--- it was a bear to get it open ,Absolute Beast.

this one when you click the latch on the tab if you Push in a bit it will still "move a bit'' so maybe I just need to adjust the latch ,or something.

Clean the gasket, warm it with a hair dryer to mold it back to the face of the fridge.

My bet would be an air leak, defective door gasket, door not fitting properly. Wouldn't be the drain hose, because that is in the fridge compartment not the freezer.

sounds like a air leak either in the door or possibly in the drain hose in the back of the fridge.
