Eating Out

Wondering how often you visit a full service restaurant. It would be interesting to know what sort of RV'er you are: weekend warrior, frequent short-tripper, snowbird, fulltimer, etc.

I'll go first. We are long term traveling fullimers. We eat out once a month or less. Even then we go to out of the way local recommendations.
My illustrious career has included the ownership of 2 restaurants and the management of another. What I produce out of my kitchen on a daily basis is significantly better than what we can get out. If that sounds braggadocios, it was intended to be. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love cooking, but once in a rare while I like a short break. My wife and I are almost always disappointed.

Mostly weekend trips and the occasional week long one for us. We both like to cook, so we seldom eat out when RV'ing. Now, visiting a good dive bar, that's a must do on our trips.

Occasional weekend warrior with a couple of longer trips. It really depends on where we are visiting. When we go to a place that's known for the local food scene, we eat out quite a bit or try and buy local in-season ingredients for cooking/grilling. We feel it's part of the experience. But if we are going to camp with friends or just get away, we do all of our own meal preparations. I love to grill and DW loves to cook, so we're pretty flexible.
I'm done. This isn't a place to be helpful. It's a place where curmudgeons with a superiority complex will nit pick everything. If you want help, go elsewhere. Admin, delete my account please.

Well, I'm a 51 year old bachelor. I don't feel comfortable in a restaurant by myself. Besides I'm a simple country farm hand. The best clothes I own are clean blue jeans. My idea of eating out is Subway or someplace like that.

Because I am so old I try to eat healthier. I avoid McDonald's and places like that. That means I eat at home or the campground most of the time.

I also don't eat that much. A single chicken breast grilled on the fire is enough meat to last me for about 2-3 meals. Then I fill up on vegetables and salad.

About once a week I will hit up Subway for a 3-4pm snack.

I'm a foodie and we're weekend warriors. This will be our first season NOT parked in a seasonal spot. I love to plan and spend time making at least one spectacular meal each weekend, even if it's a gourmet breakfast. Sometimes killer appetizers are the highlight of the day. If we're feeling it, we'll be seeking out locations featured Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, mom & pop places and anything local and unique. If not, we're always prepared to never go hungry. Not by a long shot.

Weekend Warrior with one 2 week trip a year. We always eat what we bring because we generally eat better when we are camping! On our two week trips, we will usually eat breakfast out once and grab a sub sandwich on our wait out for a daily sight seeing trip from our home base. We will stop at grocery stores to restock, but we prefer to cook at "home" and eat at "home".

We do anything from extended 4-day weekends to month-long journeys. When we are in the RV, we rarely eat out. We much prefer to have our own food supply and cook out at campgrounds. We may eat out once a week on a trip at a special restaurant for dinner or for Sunday breakfast. Otherwise, most of our cooking is at the campsite.

Weekend warrior/short tripper......

Depending on where we go and for how long, but we usually frequent a restaurant or two or three over a week long. We don't go to chain restaurants then though. We like to visit the local flair and enjoy ourselves. If we go to the mountains for the weekend, then we are usually cooking at the RV (outside).

We're also fall into the group that thinks food quality while dining out is terrible so we eat the majority of our meals at home (full timers). When we do eat out, it is normally for lunch and usually someplace where we can stay on our low carb eating plan. Spouse is very good with our pellet smoker and can cook a better steak than any restaurant we have ever eaten at.

We eat out 2 to 3 times per week. I don't like to spend my nickel experimenting on different foods. In the motorhome, or whenever we're at one of our other kitchens, we always fix the same foods. We alternate between about 14 different foods. We eat 2 meals per day. We insist on not being overweight.

We are a little more then weekend warriors. Some holidays we will go for weekends with family. But since we retired 2 years ago we also take extended trips. So far we have been on 4 of at least 6 weeks. These would have been longer but ran into some issues on each one where we had to cut short and come home.

I say some weeks we eat out 2 or 3 times. Mostly we fix something easy or get take out to go back to RV. A lot has to do where we are at and who we are with. ๐Ÿ™‚

We full time. Rarely eat out. DH will go into heart failure if he eats too much restaurant food. There is just no escaping the salt they put into it. We had to make a fast trip by car back to Indiana from Texas a few weeks ago for a funeral. We ate on the road, but tried to make what seemed to be healthy choices. He gained 5 1/2 pounds in 4 days. Coming back, we purchased and prepared some cold stuff we could eat out of the cooler. A bit more cumbersome, but worth it.

Typically our camper fridge is completely packed and we try to cook as much as possible. With that being said our last trip to Cape Cod we ate out a ton just because we couldn't get enough of the fresh seafood and we loved the mom and pop restaurants available.

When we're siteseeing we pack a cooler with lunch. There's always a pleasant place to enjoy it.

When we take the Jeep 4-wheeling in the boonies we put our sandwich or leftover pizza or a burrito on the engine and enjoy a hot meal when we come upon a especially nice scenic area. Our lunch has never fallen off - even on the roughest terrain.

We are basically week end warriors for a couple of years and the a huge 10 week or longer trip and then week ends for a couple. We're retired so a weekend can be anywhere from 3 days to two weeks. The more we travel and the older we get, we eat out less and less. Our favorite local campground has fantastic Take-Away foods and we really long for it when we're not there, but lately after one lunch and one breakfast, we eat in.

Our favorite places while at home are local specialtiy place. There is a local steak place where we treat ourselves, a fantastic Chinese place where we eat every week, a Mexican restaurant I've been going to for over 45 years and an Italian place we love due to the old country menu and have been going to since we were dating. I am a Cheeseburger junkie, we do have several places for that in a five mile radius(not McD's or BK or any big chain places).

Camp about 5 times a summer. 1 trip alone is 10-14 days.
Depending on where we are and the weather, we almost always head into he closest town and and check it out and grab a bite to eat at least once during the trip.

That's part of it IMO. Travel, check out different small towns. head back to the site and build a fire and enjoy a few beverages. Especially along the lake Michigan shoreline. So many little quaint towns. We love to stroll around their respective downtown.
