Just curious what I would need to change out to go from the 1000/10000 hitch to the 1200/12000 or 1400/14000 hitch. What can I keep and what would need to be changed?

A little rant to go with this:
Just bought the TT and hitch - brand new. Not knowing a lot about TTs and towing I asked the dealer what size hitch they were putting on. Tech said 1000/10000 and I asked if the 1200/12000 wouldn't be better. He says, "no, 1000/10000 is all you'll need. You don't want to go too big because it would stiffen the ride". Well, I think he was all wet and I could have/should have gone at least the next one up. But not knowing enough about this part of it I just settled.

TT is a Rockwood 8329SS (35 feet, 8850 GVWR). I haven't done a true weight on it yet but my guess is that the tongue wt. will be over 1000. I only drove it home from the dealer, about 50 miles, and it was smooth as glass but that isn't a large enough sample size to tell me what I want to know. The TV is not a problem (Dodge Ram 3500 w/5.9 Cummins) but I just want everything to be as clean as possible.

Thoughts - suggestions?

Did you actually just get the 1400# bars or did you get a whole new hitch?

My previous lighter, shorter trailer I used the 1000# bars. Upgraded to one similar to yours. I drove it home the 65 miles from the dealer and ordered the 1400# bars. Night and day improvement.

I believe that they are different sized heads and spring bars and are not interchangeable. Equal-i-zer used to have the physical sizes of the spring bars and weights of the products on their website but that is no longer there. What they have now is a PDF of the parts breakdown here..

Looking at that parts breakdown, it shows different part numbers for the hitch head of every weight hitch. 6, 10, 12, and 14 thousand pound hitch heads and bars all have a different part number. All the other part numbers are identical. That tells me that the parts are still not interchangeable, just as it used to be. If you want to upgrade to the next higher weight class, it looks to me like you will need to purchase a whole new hitch. The only parts that you could keep would be the parts that attach to the trailer A frame (L brackets and parts)and probably your shank and ball.

When I had a problem I was told Progressive does not sell "parts" to upgrade a hitch. Something about the liability issue of a pieced together hitch. Plan on replacing the entire hitch.

I beleive the L brackets and link plates are the only items that would not need replacing. Best to phone Progress and ask them though and get it from the source.
