Our Travato 59k does not have a spare tire. We have a kit with the green gooey stuff and compressor. Has anyone used this and is it successful.
Thanks. .Wayne in Mass

That goo will ruin your wheel, over time.

I once loaned a small utility trailer to my brother. He didn't tell me that while he had it, he ran over a nail and got a flat. He put the goo in the tire and aired it up. It held for 10 years. After 10 years, it went flat, and would NOT air up. I took the wheel to a local tire shop. They showed me where the wheel was rusted out because the goo had been left in there. He said if I ever use the goo, to get the tire professionally repaired as soon as possible, and have the goo washed out.

This is the same brother who borrowed my chain saw, and ruined it. I loaned the saw to my Father. My Father loaned it to my brother. I got the story when Dad returned my chain saw, and it was new, in the box.

What everybody said about the tire goo.

And I thought I was the one that had the brother that ruined everything ! Yes his name is Darrel, But my name isn't Larry ! lol

Once the green stuff has been put into a tire the conventional methods will no longer stick ! At least carry a tire , many service trucks can install a tire if ya have one .

Pick up tire plug strips and plugging tools. Throw the goo in the trash.

I have plugged many tubeless tires on the road.

This is what I've used for many, many years and I use it a permanent fix and have NEVER had a problem until the tire wears thin/out. I also do not buy steel reinforced if at all possible.
I have used this method on lawn mower tires up to 1100x22.5 truck tires.
For safety reasons if I plug a front tire I move it to the rear asap.

I too have used plugs on radial tires without any further problems. I always carry plugs and a compressor with me, and only a blowout or sidewall damage would prevent me from using them. I haven't had a flat fixed at a shop for 30 or 40 years.

Can't repair a hole within 2" of the shoulder that's bad bull dropping as long as it's not ON the shoulder my trusty plugger comes out, although unless I was stranded I don't think I'd use more than 1 plug per hole.

You got an old school shop then that doesn't worry about legal/liability. It's been years wine entire shops were allowed to use plugs.
That said, I've plugged probably 100 tires without issue, unless it's too big of a gash that a couple plugs can't fill.
I still use tire plugs. But there are some flats that they won't work on.
Also had a shop tell me once that they couldn't patch within 2" of sidewall. Went home and put a plug in it. Company truck.

Big thanks for all your replies. NOW..the question is...has anyone call their road assistance and actually have a tire and wheel delivered? Or..in our case..would we most likely get towed to a facility??

Re: Plugging.

I recall going to Wal*mart and inquiring on the cost of a new tire (on Sunday there are not many tire stores in the South)... The clerk started telling me how they use a proper "boot" type patch not plugs because Plugs damage the tire. (As it happens I know that) we went about five rounds before I showed him a part of the tire and he said "You need a new tire"... (Uh, is that now what I ask for walking in the door?) Aftr that businss got taken care of.

Did it again 2 days ago (Again Sunday) but this time there was no question.

I would trust a plug only long enough to get a new tire

And on Motor homes .. Not even then

As for the green stuff.. Never had much luck with it.

Whatever you do, don't plug a radial tire.
It may run a mile, or it may run 1,000 miles, but sooner or
later the "working" of the steel belts will cause the plug
to start leaking air around it.
Also, don't shoot any "fix-a-flat" material into any tire you
want repaired later. The repairman hates the stuff since he/she
has a very hard time cleaning the area before it can be properly
repaired.
If it were me I would figure out a way to carry a spare tire.
