Flat towing 2008 Equinox Sport

I searched the forum and found some previous discussions and some unanswered questions.
We traded in our HHR for an Equinox, needed a bigger vehicle for towing a small trailer (not RV related). The HHR was easy to set-up for towing. Got the diode kit for the tail lights and a switched fuse at the dash. Pretty much plug in and go.
The 2008 Equinox Sport (w/six speed tranny) can be flat towed. Manual says to disconnect the battery prior to towing. So that effectively kills all of the power to the toad. No power for the Brake Buddy now and if I get a diode kit for the tail lights will those still work?
Thanks for any help.
  • when I used a brake buddy I plugged it into a small jumper battery jobby that I wanted to have along anyhow and wanted to not draw down the toad battery.

  • Yes the key has to be turned on to acc to keep the ignition unlocked.
So a single wire from the coach battery to toad battery (fused?) should do the trick, keep the battery charged and able to use the Brake Buddy?

Looking at a couple options for the lighting. Had a 'Tow Daddy' diode set-up for the HHR that worked well. They have a universal not vehicle specific for the Equinox.

    Thanks for the help.
  • Yes the lights are powered by the MH. I assume that the key must be left in the acc or run position to unlock the steering column and this runs down the battery, you could avoid disconnecting the battery by adding a charge line to the MH to keep the toad's battery topped off while driving.
