Flies, Flies and more Flies

We were camping this week and the flies were a real problem when we ate outdoors. Any suggestion on how to reduce this problem?????
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

We have one of these... Too much fun. Sometimes the really big flies require a reload. They are a little pricey, but the ammo is cheap!

The post from Scottiemom works down here. Seen plenty of zip locks or clear bags of water keep flys away at local vegetable stands.

A combination of all of the above might be the best. They make those electric bug zappers with a light to attract bugs. We used to have one on the farm. It was kinda fun to set a listen to it zap bugs.

I've got the same one and it works pretty well. It uses 2 D cell batteries. I killed 2 bumble bees with it that were hanging around my shed door and wouldn't leave. Harbor Freight has another one that looks just like it but uses 2 AA batteries but I wouldn't rely on it. I bought one that was a different brand that uses 2 AA batteries at a drugstore that was on summer clearance sale and all it did was temporarily stun the Flies.

We use something very similar from Lowes. It worked really well. The first time we used it, we kept it near the awning. We found it is better to move it away from the area you sit the most.

These type of traps have an attractant in them that draws the flies in. After a few days, the bag is full of flies and the camp site is not.

We eat indoors, but you might try this:

Flies

I first noticed them at Lulu's, down in Homeport, Alabama. It's an open air restaurant right on the canal and we have eaten there many times. Never had flies bothering us, so it must work and it's simple and cheap.

That's the only thing I miss about not smoking any more, that always worked the best.

Take up chain smoking. ๐Ÿ™‚

Camped next to the Pend Oreille river on the WA/ID border once. All sorts of flying insects so thick you couldn't stay outside. Only person in the entire CG outside was a guy that was in a recliner, chain smoking all day watching TV. Nary a bite he told us.

We have the same issue up here in northern Maine. The local Game Wardens indicated that August 1st to about the 14th is the breeding season for house flies. They need blood to breed and NO insect repellant appears to work. They tend to congregate around gravel banks and sunny open spaces.

We have moved our chore list around home for those two weeks of August and will camp prior to of after the blood thirsty little demons have hibernated.

Too bad for the weather in Maine for the last three weeks has been delightful.

Oh well, thirsty house flies in August and squirmy ice worms in January.
