Ford Edge Dinghy

II have just purchased a Ford Edge to be used as my dinghy. My question is my car has a keyless start and the steering does not lock. Do I need to turn the ACC on? I am being told the equipment being install will get power from my RV.
  • Thanks for information guys . I will be setting up my new to me 2013 ford edge limited for towing when it warms up. Anybody use the ready brute elite for towbar and brake ?
  • I called ford and after asking several question the results was, the reason you put the ACC on is the keep the car in neutral. This is good information.
I also asked if the battery dies would this cause the car to go out of neutral and she said it would.
I will have them setup a charger system for my edge.
    Thanks again to all.
  • I have a 2014 Edge
The manual says tow in the ACC mode
We also have a charge line (( probably a good idea to get this installed) so far no battery issues

We also think this is a nice car - good size - nice ride
  • Good idea to call Ford. My Fiesta had a different auto trans. It said put it in acc and disconnect the battery. My current car a hyundai Elantra, just has you put it on acc. I had a charge line put in for good measure. My MH already had power to the 7 pin receptacle so when the car was wired for towing I had them run a line from the car's receptical to the battery with a fuse. No dead batteries on arrival.
  • The owners manual states to place ignition in the accessory position. I was asking because while on a trip I met a guy towing a Flex and he was having battery issues and put a disconnect on the battery. That had me thinking that placing the ignition in the ACC position my be just to unlock the steering.
I will try to get more info from ford. The dealer did not know.
Thanks for all comment all input is welcome as I am new to this, and did not like using a tow dolly as I have been.
  • What does the owners manual say? I had a Fiesta and there were two sets of instructions. One for keyed and one for pushbutton start. If all else fails call ford customer service. They are pretty helpful.
  • We have a 2013 Ford Edge with front wheel drive. It is our dingy as well as our only family car. We have been very happy with it. Follow the instructions in your owner's manual to set it up for towing. We have to set ours to accessory before towing. I wish we had a charging line from the coach, but we have only had the battery go dead twice when I forgot to run the car or did not run it long enough during travel legs.
  • Whatever you are being told GET IT IN WRITING!
I too am thinking of the Ford, but I am looking at the Flex. Did not think about keyless entry. Oh My.
