Fridge spring tension rods

Does any one use these spring loaded tension bars/rods in your fridge while traveling to keep things from cascading out when you open the door? I saw some from Camping World that seem like they'd work. I'd think that curtain rods would work the same, as long as they were rust proof.
What do you use & where'd you get them? And/or what is better? Cheaper & easier?
thanks
  • have you had the problem? which type of fridge do you have...RV or residential?

when we had the RV type of fridge we never had a need to use them. Now that we have a residential fridge we use these:

  • Yup, they are just curtain rods. You can find them at WalMart, just check the size.
I bought some there and bought some Camco restrainers that were double rods connected by a plastic piece at a good price at True Value.
Yes, I use them on each shelf. I throw them under the dinette at camp.
  • I use tension rods that I got with a coupon from Camping World. We have not had a problem since getting them with stuff falling out when we open the door.

Spring loaded "curtain rods" work fine in a fridge and if they rust, they are cheap enough to simply replace when that happens..

Been using spring loaded curtain rods in our Home fridge conversion for over ten yrs now, curtain rods still look good as new with no rust.

Bought them most likely at Walmart and cost less than the spring rods sold for RV fridges.

Measure the inside of your fridge then buy spring loaded curtain rod that has an adjustable range that can fit to your fridge interior.

Get the round ones that twist in and out, much easier to use..

Don't need to go nuts on the tension, just enough tension that the weight of things inside the fridge on the shelf can't move the rod much.
  • We've had ours for years. They are white. Don't remember where we bought them, but I suppose at Camping World.

We don't have a problem with frig items. We have to use the tension rods in our bathroom cabinets...over and under the bathroom sink, and in the cabinet over the toilet. Wouldn't want anything to fall into the toilet when I open the cabinet!

i learned that lesson the hard way so we now keep the lid closed unless it's being used.
  • We've been using the cheepy Walmart models for over 10 years and have never had a rust issue. That's 3 Class A's and well over 250,000 miles. We don't turn the residential refer off when home either.
  • rk911....Yeah, I know. But with senior moments, closing the lid just doesn't happen as often as it should. Of course it's on my mental list for when we batton down the hatches to drive. But most assuredly, the first time spouse or I open that cabinet after we've stopped is always sometime after we've peed and left the seat lid up :)
