Gas station etiquette

On the way to Big Cypress/Everglades I stopped for fuel at the Flying J in Dade City, FL. In the left gas lane was a shiny new Winnebago View, no toad, NY license plates. In the right lane an older class A with a toad. The owner of the class A was putting in fuel. There was no activity at all around the View. I pulled in behind the class A and got out to stretch my legs. The owner of the class A said he had waited for 10 minutes behind the View and finally went to the other lane when it opened. He finished fueling and I pulled up to the pumps. Still no activity around the View. As I was pumping gas, the owner of the View finally came out and STARTED refueling.

Two questions. Since he had a class C and wasn't towing, couldn't he have used the regular automobile lanes, and left the RV lanes for bigger rigs? Second question, is it any wonder NY residents get a bad reputation? I travel to NYC often, and have met many wonderful people, but its folks like these who give tho whole state a bad name.

On the same trip, I stopped at a service area on the Florida turnpike. We needed lunch and fuel, so I parked where I was directed, out with the 18-wheelers. We went in to grab lunch, then headed out to get fuel. Since I need gasoline, not diesel, I maneuvered back to the gas islands and pulled in the far right gas lane behind a mini-van towing a small TT, Ohio plates. Once again, I failed to see any activity around the rig, so I got out and walked up to see if there was a problem. You guessed it. Nobody there. I carefully backed up, then S-snaked my way into the next lane. As I was pulling out, here come the Ohio folks with a couple of fast food bags. We thanked them for their courtesy:R.

Why can't folks learn to fuel up first, then go park, then go shop.

When gas stations became grocery stores/restaurants, this all started.

It would be fun to watch a video made at a busy truck stop with RV pumps just to wonder at the rudeness and total lack of awareness that goes on. A "roving reporter" could come up with a mike and inquire about what was on the minds of these people. Where they tired or worried? Do they behave that way in other situations? I would do it myself but I'm too chicken. lizzie

I'm a person who can get vocal about things like that! I don't mind waiting if all the lanes are full but to have the driver inside doing who knows what for 15 minutes or more, I get upset.

My wife and I love Cracker Barrels. The past two years on our way south, I can not tell you how many of them we stopped to find cars parked in the RV lanes and there are spaces open for cars in the parking lot. I was keeping track of them but, I gave up. It appears the cars think they own the RV lanes also and have never seen Cracker Barrel make anyone move.

"Wonder Why" - would be a great name for a song!

Miscreants *YOU* know who you are!..:M

Everyone else - the OP's rant is *not* for you.:B

Bet lots of folks from Ohio and New Yawk could duplicate it about folks from Florida, or any other state - except HI..;)

But - certainly your rant will circulate throughout the entire USA,
on social media, by word of mouth, tabloids, etc. - and conditions *will* improve dramatically!..:C

Keep up the good work!

In our travels w/our 31' TT needing the outside gas pump, we see this type of thing all the time! We just sit and wait and complain inside the TV until they decide to show up and leave and/or start the gas fill. Common sense/courtesy is just not that common!

So Gordon3, you don't find this guy's behavior in the least inconsiderate?

Keep us informed where you travel.

wow, pile it on. was the other driver's cash not as green as yours? or perhaps you needed fuel in a hurry while on your way to putting out fires and rescuing kittens? was this the last gas station for the next 1000 miles, leaving no other option?

The biggest pet peeve there is when you stop to fuel. I wish Flying J would enforce the RV lanes for RV use only. I've seen people pull up in there vehicles and block the fuel lane to get propane, come in from the wrong direction, block the lines to air up there vehicle tires when they can pull to the outside of the lanes, and the biggest go inside to make purchases other than fuel!

Yep, that's what my wife and I do.

Then we find a place to park and then go in for fast food if we want.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
