Gasoline/Diesel Shortages

I thought it might be a help to our friends on the road to post locations where we have seen long gas lines or fuel stops shut down. Also advise on places near the effected areas that we know have fuel. I know this is a "fluid" situation and things can change quickly, but it might help to keep some fellow RV'ers from getting caught short.
Right now in my area, near Providence RI, I haven't seen any shutdowns.

Naaww - a "SMOKE SCREEN" ??

Does that mean the sky is *NOT* falling??? - ROTFL

Gas prices in California are up due to a pipeline that supplies *zero* fuel/s to CA.

Just an excuse by the oil companies to raise prices (and escape any anti-gouging mandates).

Why? - "More people traveling due to relaxed Covid restrictions, etc."
(But keep that pipeline in your mind !).

Gas Buddy

Though GasBuddy site is working poorly due to too much traffic.

The pipeline runs from Texas through the Gulf States, to Ga, then up to NJ. RI is not in that swath.
Stations nearer the interstate or main roads/ high traffic routes will have longer lines or more likely to be out.

Pipeline is just the best and safest method of transporting liquids and fuels. They are driving tanker trucks filled with the gas from Tx to your location now, but it is slower and might not keep up with the sudden panic of demand, but there is gas.

I have heard at least one refinery has shut down. There is no excess refinery capacity, so shutting just one down will cause a disruption and shortage. Reason to shut down is that they have no way to move product out and no way to just store huge amounts of it, and maybe cannot just run less, maybe it is all or nothing. IDK.

The pipeline supplies gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, kerosine, heating oil all in the same pipe and supplies the States from Tx up to NJ.

Your area should have a few days worth of product stored in huge tanks, but the process of getting it from storage to the gas station is tanker trucks and scheduled delivery which is based on normal sales. When everyone panics and buys all at once then the pumps run dry and remain dry until the next scheduled delivery or until they can get a delivery sooner. All stations are asking for immediate delivery and there just is not capacity for the fleet of tanker trucks to deliver gas to everyone all at once.

Always a smoke screen these things are.

FYI: I received this email from FlyingJ yesterday. It doesn't affect me since I don't travel East of the Mississippi river, but it might be helpful to you. One might assume that other stations in the area might have similar issues.

To our Valued Guests:

We are closely monitoring the rapidly changing Colonial Pipeline situation and are seeing increased demand for gasoline across various markets in the Southeast region. Diesel is still holding steady in most areas.

The increased strain on the supply chain is causing supplies to get tighter. Currently, diesel is available at most of our locations with select stores experiencing outages as we work to bring in more supply.

We will continue to do everything we can, including bringing in resources and extra drivers from unaffected areas, to meet demand and restore supply where needed at our travel centers.

Additionally, please be aware of the recent Georgia Governorโ€™s Executive Order dated May 10, 2021, which suspended the collection of motor fuel and diesel fuel taxes required by Code Section 48-9-3. More details on this are below.

We greatly appreciate your patience as we work to keep up with the quickly evolving market and will inform you of any changes to diesel supply availability.

All locations are open.

Georgia Excise Tax Executive Order:

We are aware of the recent Georgia Governorโ€™s Executive Order dated May 10, 2021 which suspended the collection of motor fuel and diesel fuel taxes required by Code Section 48-9-3. With the Colonial Pipeline down, we are required to transport fuel from out of state to our Georgia travel centers, which is creating additional issues as several states will require state excise states to be charged if Georgia taxes are not charged. We are attempting to get more information on the proper handling of this order.

In the meantime, we request that you maintain your receipts for any cash or credit card purchases made on May 11, 2021 through 11:59pm on May 15, 2021, or until further guidance from the State of Georgia on the best way to handle this situation dictates otherwise. Based on guidance received, we will review all direct bill and billing card invoices and make adjustments or corrections as needed.

Good idea, docsource.

Just a reminder to everyone to please stay on topic and keep politics out of tbis. The underlying cause of the shortage is irrelevant to this thread. Please stick to locations, prices, and outages.

By the way, there's already a 13 year old sticky thread here from the late Dick A. This current crisis is a short term situation though, so this thread seems appropriate to me.
