Gray water flush

IMO, the black tank flusher is more of a sales gimmick than actual function, plus being prone to leaking. Many folks are obsessed about cleaning/flushing the black, but not too concerned about the gray tank. Yes, the gray can stink as bad, or worse, but that's okay, because it is not scary like POOP and TP!

among the mods we had done to our coach post delivery was a gray tank flush.

You must not have one or you don’t have a clear section on your outlet.

If you close the valve without rinsing you are leaving a LOT of poo and paper in the tank. It takes me 3-4 close, rinse, open cycles to get clear water flow.

In Florida, leaving that much stuff in a tank will result in odors.

Gray tanks can get smelly in hot weather too. I’ve considering adding a rinser. We’ve always filled a sink up to rinse the tank out..

I also add 4-5 gallons of fresh water after dumping with 1/4 Pinesol to slosh around while driving.

Yes, I do have one, and use it, when on a full hookup. At a dump station, I just add about 4 gals of water down the stool, to slosh around, before camping at next destination. Mine is vented for smell, maybe your vent is plugged?

I hope you are not doing the 3-4 close/rinse cycles, while others are waiting behind you at the dump station!

We have a grey tank flush on our present 5er. We also have a dishwasher and I heard/read somewhere that that is the reason. I guess there are folks that would not bother wiping them of excess food stuffs before tossing them in the dishwasher.

Our previous 5er didn't have the grey tank flush, but as fulltimers and often staionary for months I would before making a move close the grey tank and run the waterheater till cold along with several tablespoons of DAWN. Dumping at our next stop and using a clear elbow alot of yuck flushed from the grey.

Since we don't use the dishwasher I'll just keep using my old method of flushing the grey.

I think the black tank flush gets spots in the tank very clean but the rest is uneffected. I say this because I use the flush often but every winter I use a sprayer I made and stick it down the toilet. I end up getting a lot more stuff out even right after using the built in flusher.
In my experience, the grey tank stinks more than the black. Even given the marginal effect, I would welcome a sprayer system for my grey tank. I might even install one myself.

Haven't had odors from our gray tank....seems that a combination of the traps and careful scraping of scraps from the dishes has done the trick.

I would really like to have a grey tank flush. We do not have any odors but the food particles sit at the bottom of the tank and it does not look like they all get flushed out.
