The fact is that the recidivism rate is very low for those who mess with Texas.
Not sure which side of the argument this is meant to support since even conservative sources like this one attribute Texas's dramatically reduced recidivism rates to its rehabilitation programs. - 69_AvionExplorerThe fact is that the recidivism rate is very low for those who mess with Texas.

Life in prison costs each taxpayer big bucks. Remember you are paying for this a-hole to live in a plush prison with gym, tv, game room, air conditioner, library, cafeteria food better than our kids get in school!! This scum needs to have done to him what he did to those people. Not get a free ride in prison. Remember he escaped once already when he killed them!
It costs more money for a death row inmate than a life in prison inmate. They eat up a lot more free lawyer money with extensive appeals.
That is generally a true statement, except for Texas.
Some of you might want to rethink your stance if all you want to do is save money.
Even in Texas it costs 3 times as much as life in prison.
Don't you just hate facts. :S :B - jdb7566Explorer

Maybe, this assumes the criminal has remorse. Most do not. The only remorse they have is getting caught.Gdlow wrote:

Sometimes life in prison with the mainline population knowing that the person torched some elderly people can be just as good as a death penalty.
NOT if you have had a family member murdered...
There was a time when I might have approved of the death penalty, but there have simply been too many mistaken convictions to condone it.
That being said, as someone who has had a family member murdered, I kind of agree with mlts22. Death ends all worry and suffering, while LIFE in prison means a lifetime to think about what you have done. When I think about my Uncle's murderer, I like to imagine him lonely, miserable, thinking about that day -- and wishing each and every moment that he'd made a different choice. In some ways, that really IS more of a punishment than death. - colliehaulerExplorer IIIThe car brothers were convicted of murder, served there sentence were released and shot three people within 48 hrs of being released. How about the two men serving life in FL that are on the loose. Dead people cannot kill again.

Thats back when things were ruled by common sense instead of the insane system (congress) we ave now! - noe-placeExplorerSend him to Texas, they know how to deal with murderers down there.
- mockturtleExplorer IIMost of them probably live longer on 'death row' than they would have out on the streets. :(

That's only because they spend too long on death row (two years would be adequate) and have far too many appeals (one is enough).sdianel wrote:

Hey Mockturtle, fellow Washingtonian!
Are you thinking of our infamous too fat to hang murderer Micheal Rupe right here in Washington? Hanging determined to be "cruel and unusual" due to his obesity!
Cost a million bucks for his third trial ALONE, at which the jury finally put an end to the bleeding by deadlocking on the death issue, permanently derailing the State-Funded Lawyers' Gravy Train. Automatic life by default.
He died in prison in 2006, TWENTY-FIVE YEARS after the murders he was guilty of.
