Sometimes life in prison with the mainline population knowing that the person torched some elderly people can be just as good as a death penalty.
NOT if you have had a family member murdered...
There was a time when I might have approved of the death penalty, but there have simply been too many mistaken convictions to condone it.
That being said, as someone who has had a family member murdered, I kind of agree with mlts22. Death ends all worry and suffering, while LIFE in prison means a lifetime to think about what you have done. When I think about my Uncle's murderer, I like to imagine him lonely, miserable, thinking about that day -- and wishing each and every moment that he'd made a different choice. In some ways, that really IS more of a punishment than death.
