Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Another member suggested a new forum section with new products but it doesn't look like it will be feasible. So I thought I would post this here under General RVing Issues. If enough people post (even if you have mentioned it before in another post) we can keep it near the top?

Do you have a handy hint, a new product or an old product that makes your RVing or Camping much better?

(Sorry, no commercial advertising allowed)

I'll start:

Someone in the Camping Van posted a reference to using a Super-Chamois to wipe down their shower. I have been using an icky old thick sponge and I like the chamois idea so much more.

Now I want to hear what works for you

I am going to remove all of the other dish pans that I have in our small camper van. Think this will give us some extra room.

I have those in our 5er and love the collapsible items you can find now. I have this dishpan, dish drainer, collander, bowls and measuring cups. What a wonderful invention for us travellers!

I also have a folding kitchen "island" I bought off Craigslist and had never been used. Mine is square vs rectangle. I fold it and store it between the dinnette chairs and the sofa. Adds a lot of space to the kitchen surface area and the shelves hold the chips, potatoes, breads, etc that I don't want in a cupboard. 2nd shelf holds the wine.

Putting the hangers backwards, means the hook of hanger is put on rod from the back side of rod instead of from the front. And it does work.

Drying mat. Found great stove top cover. Sold as a dish drying mat to be used instead of a dish drainer. This thing just about same size a stove top, maybe 1/4 in. thick, probably some kind of foam core with textured material on both sides. Stays put during travel, does sub as a drainer, is very light weight and takes up very little space. We love it.

Great idea. My wife already uses one at home and loves it, we just didn't think to use it in the camper. She picked up a smaller version at the dollar store for $4 for the camper. We have a stainless cover for the stove and it will fit very nicely on top.

Looks nice. I'll have to measure some of my cubby areas in my trailer to see if that would suit my use...

Had to be last here too?

The things that come to those that wait will be the junky stuff left by those that got there 1st.

Bed, Bath and Beyind carries the dish drying mats $4.99. I put it on top of the stove-top cutting board from Camping World. It extends my counter space and doubles as a dish drying area.

Have a L/R slide but still not enough kitchen counter space in your RV? I bought a wooden, folding, rolling serving cart at Target online and solved this problem. The cart is 34" high on the rollers, 17.5 inches deep and 33.5 inches wide with a solid wood top and 2 slatted shelves under. It folds to 4" deep and fits under the bed while traveling.

S&I do you have a pic or a link for the cart you are describing??

What do you mean by "backwards"?

Regarding clothes falling off the hangers: First I tried a tip that I read on here of using "pool hose" over the closet rod. Well, that didn't really work. Then I tried another tip that I read on here, and that is to simply put the hangers on backwards! That has worked so far.
