Another member suggested a new forum section with new products but it doesn't look like it will be feasible. So I thought I would post this here under General RVing Issues. If enough people post (even if you have mentioned it before in another post) we can keep it near the top?

Do you have a handy hint, a new product or an old product that makes your RVing or Camping much better?

(Sorry, no commercial advertising allowed)

I'll start:

Someone in the Camping Van posted a reference to using a Super-Chamois to wipe down their shower. I have been using an icky old thick sponge and I like the chamois idea so much more.

Now I want to hear what works for you

My DH is a handy guy. Knowing that, I asked him to make me something to hold the sofa open in the FW. It is a jack knife style and to access storage could be tricky. Not anymore. Here is what DH made for me. He sure is a whiz with the PVC! 🙂

I got a new catalogue from Solutions.com. They have a collapsible funnel. I've ordered 1 for my stick home and one for my future B.

Save weight on canisters - use the nesting style tin ones. All of the ones I have right now are antique, but I just ordered some new ones and will be spray painting and decoupaging to match the interior.

Me too! I use those plastic photo wallets with pages that have double sided sleeves and are approximately 4X6". I've found them in the photo section at WalMart and also at Joanns Crafts for about a $1.00 each. I can get 36 recipes in one of those. I have one for Crockpot recipes, one for main dishes, one for desserts and I even have one specifically for recent photos!

As stated above...you can carry a bunch of these in less space than a regular cookbook and much less weight too!

It's not uncommon for marker light and cabover window leaks to run down between the inner and outer walls, not showing up until it reaches the bottom.

I store my very favorite recipes that I might want to use on a trip in one of the smaller photo albums so they take up less room in the fiver.

After reading all these great tips I thought hard about one to contribute. If you are bringing CDs and DVDs you do not need the hard plastic cases they come in, which take up a lot of room. You can get a binder with pages of pockets and fit a whole lot of discs. Sort of like the ideas with documents or recipe cards, but with CDs and DVDs. Wonder what else could be stored in a binder like this?

Sure, but only for the rain that goes downside up.

OK, let's see if you like this one.
As my RV gets older, I keep trying to avoid problems. As I have a window in the cabover bed, I decided to directly avoid water from going over any of those openings, by putting an RV Gutter over everything in the front of the cab over. Here are the pictures:




As you see, I put an RV gutter arround the window, and a small one over every marker light. This should avoid any water to drain directly into the opening, avoiding one of the biggest sources of water damage.

So far, the swimming noodle for cabinets, drawers, and areas where you don't want things to move around in is my favorite, and fabulous! Very cheap to buy, easy to cut, (I used my scissors), and work everywhere with no sticky residue that you get from tape or even velcro.

In our '88 motorhome, when we travel, the wood blinds made so much noise, my DH drove me crazy complaining about the level of noise. So, I took heavy duty velcro and cut a strap about 10" long, pulled the blinds up (compressed as much as I could), then wrapped the strap around the blinds and up over the rod at the top, and wrapped the strap tightly. No more noise from the blinds hitting the side of the wall or window. Easy to undo and put in back in place when we get to our destination, and when we get ready to move takes no more that 5 min total to strap back up. When you measure for the velcro straps, be sure to allow about a 2" overage so they will stay fastened.

The metal cover for the stovetop also rattled, so I laid a thin beach towel folded between the burners and the stovetop, and no more noise. It is amazing how much a few mods can make!
