Happy New Year from Calgary Alberta!

Uneventful New Year's Eve....

There was a day many years ago when it was Rock on - Let's party, Yahoo! And copious quantities of intoxicating beverages would be consumed. Loud music. Going outside at midnight and banging on things, make as much noise as possible! Then there was the junk food, the preparing of unhealthy snacks and greasy stuff in the oven. And more drink....
We would wake up the next morning going ohhhhhhh why did I do that? Never again, only to do it again next year. :E:E

All that's changed now... I'll be 65 in July, don't drink much any more, just the occasional glass of wine with dinner. Or the odd drink here and there at some occasion.
Funny how as we age we change behavior, have a little more respect for our bodies, wanna make them last now instead of thinking they will last forever.

Didn't make midnight last night, why bother? Just another night!
Oh well, life is good, it's another new year, onward and upward we go, 🙂 Already planning where to go and enjoy some camping. Gotta take more time off, more weekends away, more time enjoying all that life has to offer. I'm still working, didn't plan my future too well, the future is now here and I have to keep working. That's ok, I'm finally happy now! Life is good!

I'm likely not alone here with my sentiments. How about you?

Did you see on the news about the guy who shot himself in the stomach celebriting New Years. Alcohol and Firearms there's a winning combination. What a way to start the year.

I stayed up past midnight last night, just so the outdoor noises would subside before I went to bed.

I remember one year about 20 years ago I was working an overnight shift New Year’s Eve, running around checking on a few of the commercial properties, and at some point I completely forgot it was New Year’s eve. At midnight, the car behind me started flashing it’s like it’s nonstop and beeping his horn. At the next red traffic light, I got out of my truck and walked back to him asking what his problem was, and he replied “happy new year”. I felt like a giant jerk

It was a comfortable feeling reading through all of the posts on this thread. There's one common theme throughout: We're all older and wiser. We've gleaned a great deal of experience throughout our years. We partied hard back in the sixties and seventies, survived it, and can now reflect back and look at our grand kids. They have NO IDEA that grandma and grandpa rocked on. To them, we were born old, kind, and wise.

We've learned to slow it down - sometimes on purpose, sometimes not - we've buried some friends this past year, and we appreciate what that means. (Geez, I'm reading what I'm writing here, and I've become my father LOL).

So let's have a really good 2019. I'm appreciating every day as best I can. Not gonna wait 'til the last minute to start appreciating - I'm 63 and gonna get a head start on it.

Both 73 and never much on partying although we did make it to midnight...not sure why with a DVR. Ate out before going to a party and gave the older (younger than us) waitress a 100% tip. You could tell it had been a long day but she was still cheerful about having to work.

The older you get the wiser you get, or maybe you simply get more mellow. Some years ago we used to spend New Years out in the boat with like minded friends all rafted up for the night. There could be up to 7 boats ranging in size from 28' up to 43'. No worries about driving home. We were home for the night.

Yesterday was spent working on painting the exterior of our house. A nice dinner at home. Did not make it to 12. Back up on the ladder painting again today.

The celebration starts in April when we get back to the home on wheels.

Both of us are 58. Never been much for partying or drinking much. We did our share in our early 20s but that was it. I get no pleasure out of watching people act the fool and then hurl because they are loaded.

Couldn't agree with Gary Haupt any more about character. I'd rather be played as a fool for helping someone who doesn't need it than be considered a jerk because I didn't. While I firmly believe you should not be forced to help I also firmly believe if you can you should. Some day it could be me on the receiving end.

What I haven't seen on here is talk of New Year's resolutions. I don't make any-I don't believe in setting myself up for failure. It just adds too much unnecessary stress. I'd rather keep the following quote by Vince Lombardi in my mind instead:

"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."

That's exactly how the DW and myself feel about those folks standing places with signs asking for help. As much and as often as we can, we give them a few $$ and maybe some encouraging words.

It's not our concern on "how they're going to use the $$". Our concern is to almost unquestioningly help right on the spot.

Their reward is right then and there, while our reward is both then and there and for all eternity when millenniums later we perhaps meet them again and they remember us.

I can relate. It's always been just another day to me. I worked shift work most my life and worked most holiday's.

We both 56 and the days of out night parting have long since past. For us it's a day off from work, get to sleep in a little and with the trailer wheels frozen to the ground it's just one more day closer to spring camping! :C

My idea of a New Years party is one I've never yet done - sitting outside our RV by the fire watching a sunset while eating popcorn out in the middle of nowhere at Lake Alamo. 😉

I'm only 67, I still like to have a good time but with a tad more moderation. I worry about the day when I will feel too old to set off some fireworks on New Years. Sorry if I woke any of you up.
