Hit a tire

Yesterday after noon traveling west bound on I-12. Traffic is heavy and I can't move over for 2 pickups on the shoulder. A guy pulls a pickup truck tire out of the bed of a truck. It got away from him into my lane and I hit it. Luckily it went under my motorhome and the front axle stopped it. I was able to pull over. The bumper is bent, I hope that's all. We got pictures of him, the bumper and tire.

He kept saying it was an accident like it wasn't his fault. Also wanted to know if I had a jack so he could change his tire. I said no. We called the police and got a report. Talked to his insurance too. He didn't claim responsibility with them either.

What a pain. We're fulltimers this is my home. It can't be in a repair shop any length of time.

    If it was his tire and it rolled away from him, it`s on him. if there is no damage then I would just move on. no need to let it bother you too much.

    yep it sucks, glad you got a report made that is your life saver. his insureance or yours will fix it. now its up to you to find a shop that,ll hook you up for a couple days for repair. if you were in my neck of the woods ,my driveway is open for your use.

    Which way are you headed? there is a body shop in Clearwater FL that specializes in RVs and OTR trucks, that will let you stay on site with hook ups. They do excellent work and don't ask me how I know about them....:)

    Old insurance agent here. Even if the tire getting loose is an accident, it is still his fault. If you have full coverage, file with your insurance and let them fight the fight. The insurance company or manufacturer may be able to help you find a repair shop. If your insurance does not cover loss of use, you can still go after the other driver for the misc. charges.     Sorry for your troubles. As stated, either your insurance or his will cover the damage. And, it is a good practice to never admit fault. Let the insurance companies work it out.

    I have no idea where I-12 is but in California, if you have to have a replacement vehicle until your vehicle is repaired, it's on the insurance company. Could be one of the reasons our insurance is so high, that's for another post. I would check with the insurance commissioners office about your rights. If given the option of renting a comparable rig or paying for services in a nice hotel, I bet the insurance company would have you in a hotel very quickly.

    IF you have 'full timers' insurance.....motel expenses should be covered.

    At least they are with our 'FT' policy.

    We stayed 3 days in motel while repairs were done......

    Get your Ins. involved. That's why you have ins and pay premiums for.

    At least he had insurance. Around here, nearly half the drivers don't.
