I actally did this on my last tank. Then it cracked on top near the toilet coupling. I just replaced the tank at that point. Did not add the port to the new tank. FWIW the port never leaked. I used a Valtera valve adapter flanged screwed right over a 3" hole in the front side of the tamk. Capped it with a standard drain cap.

I have a devise with a garden hose connector that clamps on to the drain opening - open release vaule - let drain then turn on hose - it will shoot water back up to the holding tank - when water starts coming back shut off water and let drain. I do this until return water is clear.

Dump a couple of bags of ice in the toilet before you leave the cg. The sloshing will clean out the bottom of the tank.

Just curious, why do you want to "clean" the black tank? Next use its "unclean" again. Just use plenty of water when flushing and rinse with the grey when dumping.

We put a few ounces in our 45 gallon black tank each time we flush. If you have a bad clog, put in a bunch more than that and let it sit for 2-3 days so the spores can multiply and do their thing...

That would be "Calgon water softener", not the Calgon bath beads. Big difference.

I just posted this tip that I am beginning to feel is the best way to keep tanks as clean as possible.

If you have build-up, doing what others say in terms of putting Calgon and such in there and driving around is a good way to get the gunk out - then just do back-flushing as a normal course of business and you should be "good to go."
