Our family tradition is to go out camping every Memorial day weekend so we made reservations way in advance. Set up camp last night. Roasting marshmellows with the family when neighbors move in. Stereo cranks. Beers are opened. Kids we don't know are in our site. Tried to polietly , and I really was, ask the neighbors to turn it down as it is suppose to be "quiet time". They told me I picked the wrong campground. Thought about camp hosts but what could they do? Get into a conflict and put drunks out on the road? Not likely. So we packed up and came home. Why can't folks who want to party stay home? Folks just do not care anymore. Very discouraging

Not really. If they were walking down the road/sidewalk, maybe. But they are on there site. Its no different than being drunk and rowdy in a hotel room.

If this campground allows drinking, they could kick everyone out for being drunk in public after 3 beers.

Sure they can be arrested. I've arrested drunks out of their front yards. Just depends on the situation, level of intoxication and their actions. You can advise them to go inside and sleep it off. They do, you leave and ten minutes later they are back outside doing it again. They go to jail. Simple stuff.

Here in BC canada the provincial parks have a rule that only family members are allowed to be on a site over the holiday weekends. The obvious intent is to keep the rowdy party's to a minimum. How well it works I am unsure but I did see a drunk group ejected based on the rule. Police met them at the gate.

I feel your pain, but it's best avoided. Change your family tradition and don't go camping on holiday weekends in popular parks. July 4 and Labor day come to mind also.

This is good advice. If you don't like noise then don't camp on holiday weekends. We went camping this weekend . (The weekend after Memorial Day) and the campground was almost empty. Just a few of us there and we had a good time. Took the kids to a local Amusement Park. (Arnolds Park , Ia) and there were no lines for the rides either.

X2.
It is wonderful not to have to follow the holiday schedule. We are also retired and enjoying it greatly.

A side note.....I remember a time when good people would band together to "take care of problem people" using various means, and when that sort of thing had to happen...law enforcement officers were completely behind the good folks.

I have resorted to taking my chainsaw along on our trips, and if we experience noisy obnoxious neighbors, I choose that time to tune up the saw with as much smoke and loud revving as I deem necessary. A crazy look in my eyes is an added special effect. I may get ejected for my loud noise, but at least I leave with a bit of self satisfaction.

I've never experienced this. And here's one possible reason. I stay at privately owned RV parks where the owners live there. For them, it isn't a job. Its their livelihood. And their campground's reputation.
I watched a drunk guy in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina get the boot. He was escorted out by the local police.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

We frequent a County park a couple hours away. This park allows monthly site rentals. Last year a couple with three big dogs were in a site about 150 feet away. The 40 something couple took off leaving two big dogs outside. Dogs howled for hours. Reported to park rangers. When the couple came back the rangers spoke with them but the dogs were quiet.

next day the same thing but the ranger saw the couple leave and drove by the campsite. Dogs were howling. When the couple came back the ranger cited them for loose and howling dogs. The offenders were not happy with the ranger but backed down. Dogs were quiet for the rest of our stay. A couple weeks later we returned and the couple was gone.

I didn't read all 8 pages if this thread. If it had been me. I would have just had fun with them and rolled with it.

Each camping trip is different. Sometimes it is quiet. Sometimes it's a big bunch of people all getting together to have a good time.

On Memorial Day this weekend I was near louder people. I cracked open a beer and went and had a good time with them. As I sat there and watched I realized that their kids were playing in the fire, playing in the lake, playing lawn games, and everyone was fine.

Does anyone remember Normal Rockwell paintings from the Saturday Evening
Post??

It looked just like that !!!!

Many of you have gotten to obsessive about things. Norman Rockwell would have nothing to paint these day. You would have everyone looking like a robot.

The host was there but was not notified by the OP that there was a problem. The host would have a way of contacting law enforcement. Having been a host we would never have been put in a campground without having a way to contact someone, if needed.

Sorry your weekend was ruined. When we read your accounting we cannot tell what his demeanor was, whether you felt threatened by him, or if you thought your family would not be safe in that situation. If you did not have cell coverage I am certain that weighed into your decision. You made a choice that you thought was best for you and your family based on the information you had that we do not. You might consider calling and expressing your concerns about the host not being there or concerns about no way to contact law enforcement should you need it. We always camp during holidays at state parks in Ohio and have never had a problem.

Normally the host is only an observer and informer. The host will inform the offenders of rule infringement and then call for enforcement.

I would expect the host to have a radio, phone, or some means of contacting law enforcement.
