Honda Generator Cable Question

I bought two Honda 2000 generators years ago and they have always worked perfect. One has the bolt on parralel kit with the 30 AMP plug and circuit breaker with cables to attach to the second one. I need to replace the cable ends that were damaged. I've seen cable kits where you simply plug the connectors into one generator and then the other ends to the second. Mine has the bolt on kit that has one end of the cables permantly attached to it. Is there a difference or can I use the simple cable kit.

To use the simple wiring setup you have to have one standard 2000I with 2 110v 15amp outlets and the second 2000I Companion that has 1 110v 15amp outlet and 1 twist lock 30amp plug.

You need a retractable sheath banana plug.

No need ... here is your first link and your second link.

However, my question would be - for replacement parts why would you not just go to your local Honda powersport dealer and order what you need? :h

Thanks!
I did try Honda. The parts person didn't have a clue about generators....only motorcycles. I tried another bike shop that sells Hondas...same response. I'll order the wire kit and solder the new plug on. Then I'll have spares.:D

There are two cable kits for Hondas

one is for use only when you have a COMPANION model (only one needs to be a companion) the other for use when you do not.

IF you have the skills you can get the less expensive COMPANION kit (which is just wires and plugs) and make repairs

IF you do not, then get the more expensive non-companion kit.

I have exactly the same setup as the OP. If you can't find the banana plugs locally you could just buy the wire set and replace just the wires that go to the second generator. I'm not sure how the plugs are attached to the wires but they are probably just soldered connections.

Second that on going to your local Honda dealer. They will probably have what you need in their store.

This is whats attached to one of my generators.

The ends going to my other generator are damaged. I can't find the "banana plugs"any in stores or just don't know where to look.
I saw these on Amazon and it looks like they just plug from one gen to the other. http://www.amazon.com/Honda-Eu2000i-Combo-Package-Built-/dp/B00P9N114C/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1434522325&sr=8-6&keywords=honda+parallel+kit
Maybe because the kit thats attached to mine has the 30amp plug and breaker? Both my gen are like the one on the right with regular outlets. The newer model, which I don't have, has a built in 30amp receptacle. I suppose I could buy the cables and splice the plugs onto the one I have.

Sorry....links didn't work. I'll try and post pics later.

I don't believe there is a difference. sounds like yours plugs into both generators except one side also bolts onto a generator. Can you just replace the banana plugs on the loose wires and be back in business. If not you will have to buy the kit and throw your old one away.

Some links and pictures would help us understand what you are faced with.

If you can post a pic of the fronts it will be easier to tell. I have not seen one that did not have the banana style plugs as an option on the front. I would hate to tell you yes and yours be one that does not have it.
