How fast do you think they can build a TT?

Not sure if this vid has been posted here before.
Never would have thought an RV could be built this quick.
6 hrs out the door.
The video is about 5 years old, so maybe theyve streamlined the build process even more.:B
From the looks of how these people are moving theres no wonder why there are so many issues.
Looks like a lot of Amish workers too.

Don't need to watch this video as I am experiencing the end product first
hand. I think I'll keep my current trailer for a long time as I have already fixed all it's issues myself and do not want to start all over with another new trailer built to third world standards.

When we took delivery of our Forest River made Rockwood Roo Hybrid Travel Trailer in the spring of 2005, our salesman told us that Forest River was pushing out 17 trailers a day.

Cars/Trucks can be built so that every few mins one rolls off the line. That started with the Model T where every 2.5 hours Henry Ford rolled one off the line. HOWEVER, with RV's, while they use assembly line/stall build processes, from what I see in that vid, they may not have any standard work (documented processes) for assembly...what do I mean by that? How many nails to hold in a rafter? A floor? These things should be engineered, and taught to the assembly workers...not left up to them. I could go into more detail, but from a manufacturing standpoint, it seemed things are kinda built as they go. No guards on wiring around corners (an issue I've had in my TT when wires rub themselves bare).

I have 20 years in manufacturing...so again, the vid shows me its more "get er done" than using jigs, standard work.

**By the way, my biggest pet peave with the last 3 or 4 TT's we've owned is the raw material left behind...cutouts, saw dust, wire, etc. Can you imagine getting into a new car and the roof cutout for your sunroof is laying in the backseat? Or bits of wire all over the floor (they use pre-made harnesses so that won't happen anyway).

How fast can you build it depends on how fast you want it to fall apart.

The faster... the faster.

I seen that video wen it came out 5 years ago.

If I was in Jayco`s shoes I wouldn't be proud of that video. that video shows all the problems in the RV industry. build them as fast as possible, if not fater, and let the customer worry about getting it back to the dealer for warranty work that they will try and blame the customer for.

It still makes me sick to watch that video.

Wasn't Ford building B52 bombers in 55 minutes leading into WWII? Video somewhere on that recently.

I think you're talking about the B-17 in WWII.

The B-52 is a jet bomber from the mid-fifties, and still in use today.
So, speed of assembly is not the important factor, it's the quality of workmanship.
The B-17 did very well in WWII.

I wonder if the 6 hours include lunch and mandatory union breaks? :@
How long does it take to build a car or truck on an assembly line?

Nothing new....in fact they build them faster today than 5 yrs ago. Rockwood was pushing 20+ out the door per day from one line when ours was built in April of 2016.

If you ever go see it in person you'll have 2nd thoughts about ever buying one.

Any sembalnce of quality or quality control is way down the list as the goal is to get as many out the door as possible while sales are good. The Amish are a bunch of hacks who are there to get a paycheck and get out the door as early as early as possible in the day, so they can go home and feed the cows or bale hay. They are pieceworkers so once the Amish guy who installs the lights is done, he goes home.

They'll slow down when the RV Industry tanks again, which it will and they know it, during the next economic downturn or increase in fuel costs.

They conveniently omit all of the above in those popular RV television shows sponsored by the RVIA and their Go RVing campaigns.

Seems about right. It would explain why my dealer kept my trailer for almost a month to basically finish building/repairing my TT when I bought it. The Jayco being built is almost identical to my Starcraft Autumn Ridge.

One would think that the factories would just slow down a little bit and build them right. The amount of money they must shell out to the dealers for warranty work has got to be huge. All that could be saved if they just took their time and built it right in the first place.
