We are looking to buy in 2 years. I see a whole lot of nice looking DP's for sale at the PPL. A lot of RV's being sold from there. HOw many of you have bought from there. Please share with me your positive and negative experiences dealing with this company. If need be send me a pm. If there are any other places I should be looking for a used rig please share that info as well. I know about rv trader CL and ebay. Thanks for the help.

Just think of consignment as the same as for sale by owner. No guarantees with either.

No doubt. I was more curious about the dealership than the quality of the MH. And yes from what I have been reading on this site and others it does matter where you buy.

I would slightly modify that statement. Sure, if the dealer is selling a unit they own and guaranteeing it, dealer matters.

But the majority of PPL's coaches are CONSIGNMENT. Meaning that the dealership has not gone through them and is not responsible for their condition.

You will find a wide range from "very well cared for" to "parked it outside and just drove it-- selling before we have to do any maintenance". And, it is up to the buyer to verify condition and determine a price based on what they find.

Again, consignment IS different than dealer owned.

This is a consignment place... think of it as your neighborhood used RV facility. You can find a whole range of quality. It's up to the owner to do repairs or do some upkeep to make his RV saleable. PPL doesn't do it. Therefore, it's up to potential buyers to inspect thoroughly. You can find some excellent RVs and you'll also find some trash. PPL does an overview inspection but it does not get into the 'inners' of the RV. Many people have bought and sold very successfully.

You can go look at RVs that are for sale by owner and you'll find the same thing. Over the phone it sounds awesome but in person? Not so. When buying used you really have to inspect it thoroughly no matter where you buy it.
