How to avoid Mice thru Winter Storage

GORVN4FUN

I had to replace my backup camera signal cable because mice chewed through the wires last winter. I've had foam come out of AC vents, and I assume it's due to mice. What are the best ways to keep mice out of the RV over winter? We completely empty and clean the motorhome. I don't want any more problems. I've heard of dryer sheets and moth balls.

Get some RAT poison. Not the grain type but the green blocks. Put a number of them in and around the RV -- you can not have too many. Since they are solid blocks you can throw them into hard to reach places -- under drawers and by the water heater etc. They will last a number of years.

Really a nice guy. :R Just randomly poison any animals that come by.

That really reflects terribly on your attitude and disposition, and beyond that to even post something like that in public. Sick

I disagree with poison. I have pets of my own and wouldn't want one of them accidentally getting into your poison or a animal that ate your poison and wasn't dead yet.

Cats are good if you store your RV in a place where you can do that. Just don't feed the cat to much.

creeper's bucket trap looks like a good one. I have seen that idea before.

Setting a lot of mouse traps around is a good idea too. Then you can find the mouse and get rid of it. Poison might let the mouse die in a bad place and, boy howdy, and small dead mouse can make a heck of a stink. And the smell gets in everything.

Oh yea, this sound like a good idea, what could possibly go wrong??? The mouse dies in a hard to reach place!!!!

I can't believe some of the drivel posted on here.

I use the same green blocks and have good luck with them. Yes there is a possibility of them expiring somewhere you can't find them. but they aren't chewing wires any longer. The terminex guy said it makes them thirsty and they leave to find water. Too bad you disagree. Maybe allow us to decide. or give your wisest advice.

Bucket mouse trap, baited with peanut butter. They will be drawn to the bait. Fill bucket with antifreeze and you'll have no smell.

The rat poison drys up the mouse. No odor. No need to look for the mouse until you find it dried up in your stack of towels where it make it's nest.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

The only reason a lot of things work are because there is no mouse problem to begin with. They make nests out of dryer sheets yet people with no mice claim they work, because there are no mice. The only sure fire cure is a cat, a trap, poison...end of story.

Don't know where you store your MH, but I put shop lights (on timers) in the engine and laid under the vehicle. I do this for one car that we leave at home in carport. It works for us. I'm going to have to string one out to the MH which sits beside our house for storage, because we had the dash A/C vacuum pump line chewed through this past spring.

IF peppermint oil works ..it doesn't deter rodents from entering just keeps existing ones away.
Something to think on.

I use an anti-rodent spray all around the chassis outside.

A funny thing happened with my seasonal camp neighbor two years ago; mice made nests with his Bounce dryer sheets. We still laugh about it.

It lasts long enough to get rid of the mice. Then just sprinkle some on ground near the tires. They haven't come back in 2 months.

We check all openings and caulking areas, clean and take everything out of the fifth wheel, including barbeque grill. But we live in the country... We cover the camper but DH puts mouse traps in the basement areas. He then "checks his trap lines" throughout the winter. We have caught a few, and none have gotten any further than that area.

Always had good luck with the original Bounce dryer sheets. Avoid the scented sheets.

We put Bounce Fabric softeners throughout the entire RV. In drawers, under sinks, in rooms, floors, storage area etc. Cheap deterrent and keeps the RV smelling good. They have to be Bounce.
