Personally I'll never do it. Was reading something once where names on personalized license plates are not a good idea. Someone approaching you in a parking lot and calling out to you by name is a good way to catch you off guard and be able to get closer to you (especially bad for women if the person approaching has abduction and rape in mind) bad enough for anyone if they have robbery in mind.
My company frowns on wearing our badges outside of work for security purposes. I usually remove it and stick it in my pocket as I am leaving work. I have forgotten a few times and still had it clipped to my collar. I have on occasion had some smart aleck mess with me by calling out to me by my first name and talking to me like they knew me and asking me how I'm doing. It's a bit unnerving realizing I allowed them to violate my safety zone by approaching to close while I'm trying to remember who they might be and where I knew them from. I've also had pan handlers asking to "borrow" $20 dollars at Walmart at 2 AM because they needed gas, some oil, baby formula or a fan belt for their truck so they can get home telling me they worked where I did and did I know so and so and they would pay me back by sending me the money later in the company mail. Walmart's around here don't sell no fan belts.
I'm not paranoid, I just don't like advertising to other people I don't know, who I am.
May the force be with you.
