I was About To Learn Something And Then POOF

A recent thread on tires was started by a generous poster who was passing on his knowledge of tires. I was reading his posts and actually learning about tires when POOF the whole thread was removed because of the actions of a handful of people.

It is very sad what this forum becomes sometimes. I am also not sure why the Moderator couldn't just let his informative posts remain while only removing the bickering. Things like this are what drives people away from this forum.

And to the poster who wrote here that, to paraphrase, "the Mods know something we dont" I would hope you would re think that statement.

What's to rethink? This is a privately owned website, not some Government agency's website.

Let me give you an example.

You come to my home I get to make up the rules. You try to smoke in my home I will tell you please don't do that; I don't allow people to smoke in my house. Smoke all you want outside but please don't do it in my house. If you continue to break my rules I will tell you to leave and I might tell you to not come back. Those are MY rules and I get to have any rule I want in MY home.

RV.net gets to have their own set of rules. Do I agree with all of them? Nope, I sure don't. But guess what? It's their home and they get to have any rules they want. If I don't like enough of them I will take my marbles and leave.

All that being said I don't get what all the whine is about? Want to learn about tires? Google is your friend. There is a billion web sites you can learn about tires on. Want to learn from the Tireguy and only the tire guy? Cool, go to his blog and start learning.

It really is that simple. 🙂

Reading this website, I can't quite figure out if it's a commercial or pseudo-commercial website. If it is a website of that type, perhaps forum rules prohibit using of these forums as kindof an extension of commercial leaning websites. Reading in the link above, there's a whole lot of RV tire information that probably covers all that would have been discussed in these forums, anyway. 🙂

I suggest you edit your post before you get Banned for promoting a Commercial Web site with advertising on it which is a clear violation of RV.net policy per the Admin.
I'm outta here

Folks, the MODS did comment on another thread - they did not ban him.
The administrator banned him.

I'll throw in my $.02 here- the OP had a ton to offer- unfortunately, a forum (specifically this forum) is not really the best venue to lecture- a blog is far better for that. Realize that on this forum, all of the good info would be quickly relegated to page 400, or the thread would become far too unwieldy to read.
Tireman9 would be far more valuable responding to questions and giving a pointer to his blog, or (better yet,) writing for the RV.Net blog, giving a discussion pointer here.

Are you sure you are comfortable going down this road? At least until it is clear why the OP got banned. Just in case we are heading down some taboo topic where disseminating the wrong information can get you in trouble.

Since the moderators are not commenting on why Roger was banned, the only thing we can do is to continue on and hope a pattern emerges.

And in that spirit:

Someone asked a question about River Wear:

River wear is also called Erosion Wear or Channel Wear.

The edges of a tread element are not as well supported as the centers of that same tread element. So the edges of a rib will wear faster than the center.

Slow wear aggravates the situation - and free rolling tires wear much slower the drive tires.

Mis-alignment aggravates the situation as does underinflation.

This issue is not confined to any brand. It has more to do with the tread pattern. Ribbed tires are prone to this, especially if the edges of the rib have some sort of bric-a-brac about it - that is plain jane straight ribs are less prone to this than ribbed tires with an interesting pattern.

Fix? Rotation. Alignment. More inflation pressure. Different model of tire.

If you want to ask a question about tires, post it in a separate thread. I'll be watching for those.

It is a real shame that tireman9 got banned and his posts deleted. He was going to a lot of work to provide information about tires and answer questions based on knowledge of the subject. Many members indicated their interest and thanks for his work.

There were some critical comments - uncalled for and unreasonable in my opinion - that landed on the thread. Many members indicated that they disagreed with the critical posts. Tireman did not get into any debate with the negative posters.

One member just could not leave it alone. I could see him getting kicked out. His post were ruining the thread for everyone.

I would like the Admin/Moderators to reconsider the action taken and reinstate Tireman9 and his thread.

If that does not happen it would be reasonable to explain why this action was taken since so many members were finding the information from Tireman9 to be informative.

An exchange of knowledge is one of the goals of the forum is it not?

Insulting people is not.

Please - reinstate Tireman9

I agree the thread should be reinstated. The moderator has acted too quickly and without regard for the greater good in my opinion.

Moderators should Moderate not just Delete. That may mean engaging the OP or the problem poster and everyone knows who that was in this case and get them to Moderate their language or attitude. Just deleting threads is self defeating and not in anyones best interests.

And to the poster who wrote here that, to paraphrase, "the Mods know something we dont" I would hope you would re think that statement. Abiding and enabling censorship is a slippery slope no matter what the venue or media. We are all adults here (I assume) and I think we are capable of a certain amount of self regulation of those that get out of line occasionally. Peer pressure may be the best response in a case like this.

At the Very Least we are due an explanation from the Moderator who took this thread down.

I would join my voice to those that ask for this to be reconsidered. There was valuable information being transmitted and shared and isnt that the stated mission of this site?

I urge everyone who would like to see this thread back to post and let the moderators know how you feel.

I too was hoping to learn more about tires from Tireman.. But alas.. Guess it is not to be.

Rules are there for a reason,, and it is a good reason.. Sometimes though the rules can kind of be a pain... But,, Better to have them then the other option.

I got a PM from Roger indicating he got a notice that he was banned, but no explanation as to why. I suspect the reason has to do with his website.

So I recommend you guys with questions either email them to roger on his website, or post them here and i will try to answer them.

Can someone confirm that the OP in that thread was indeed banned? If he was I demand a public explanation from the moderators. The author seemed to be taking a ribbing from the normal jackals that jump on everyone but was providig some useful info. His website, linked above, has no ads whatsoever.

Did they also ban the jackals?
