In general, when do schools start classes?

I visit the webcams at Yellowstone several times everyday. DH is freaking out over the crowds in the park. Classes have started here ( believe Louisiana starts early). Well they had started before the floods.
Our visit will be in mid September . This is our 3rd time to Yellowstone and the Tetons and DH still thinks we should have the park to ourselves. He really knows better.
Anyhoo, when does the rest of the country start school?
Thanks.

Our DDs started to school on August 9, but the county schools started August 3. A neighboring county started August 1, while another started yesterday. Supposedly, Virginia schools are not to start before Labor Day, but we get a waiver because we miss so much for snow days.

Every state has a required minimum number of days for the length of the school year. H E R E is a list of all the states and the days required. Shortest is 160 days; most states, it's 180 days. Add in the holidays at Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as spring break, and in-service teacher training days, and you can generally figure that schools will likely begin around Labor Day, and end some time around Memorial Day...plus/minus a few depending on states with snow days...or rain days...or hurricane days....(or when I was growing up in Alabama in the 50s-60s, "cotton picking days" in the fall)

My daughter is starting her student teaching this year and is already back (in Colorado) for in-service training. Most, but not all, school districts in Colorado will be starting up over the next 2 weeks or so.

It varies widely. In my area they start mid August and end in early June for now. Seems to change every year for some stupid reason.

DGD started grammar school in the public system which still functions on an early September through late June schedule. She is now attending a private school that begins in mid August and ends the first week of June. This is a NYC school schedule.

fortunately the tour buses full of asian tourists usually don't occupy the area campgrounds and RV parks. my earlier response was based on camping space not the total number of people in the park itself.

pretty sure the OP was referring to when schools resume classes for the year rather than what time of day the classes start.

It varies but state, county, school district. I do know that where I live they start in the morning which means cars will be backed up for over a mile in front of my house until about 8:45 in the morning.

here in northern Illinois some schools are already back...some starting the first week in August. the idea here is to have first semester exams done before the Christmas break (yes, I said Christmas break).

worst case virtually all schools everywhere should be in session no later than the day after Labor Day. this is why we travel in the spring and fall...school is in and crowds are fewer and smaller. before we retired in 2005 we used to save up our vacation and take the entire month of September off. once we got past Labor Day the parks were mostly empty out west. seeing Yellowstone in Sept. should not be a problem or at least not as much of a problem as during the peak summer months.
