Thought I'd start a new topic for Gate Guards to use for comments. Like the moderator suggested-keep technical stuff, recipes, mechanical, etc. where they belong. Lets hear from everyone sucking down that caliche dust.

Okay.... this week I have called our service man 3 times, he told me he would be here tomorrow each time. Well here it is Friday I am down to a little under 10 gal of desiel. He told me yesterday he would be here this morning early with desiel, water and weed eat the weeds to keep snakes out. So far no one has showed up, I am really getting tired of being way out here in nowhere land and not being taken care of. I am about ready to call Jay and let him know the type of service we get.

I have been reading each and every message and thought it was time to chime in since we now have quite a bit of time on the books with GGS.

We have not met a service guy yet that does not work his butt off 6-7 days a week sometimes trying to satisfy all of our 'demands'. Just by the nature of the business, their whole schedule can be thrown off by one phone call. Something like an emergency with a down generator, a rush-rush new set up or somebody suddenly discovering they are completely out of water or fuel is enough to disrupt their whole day. A phone call like that will push everyone else back in the schedule. Sure, some guys are better than others but they all work HARD from what I have observed.....

We always seem to get assignments that are a good ways from the closest yard ( We are 335 miles west of Carrizo Springs on this assignment) -- maybe Roger doesn't like us so much???? ๐Ÿ™‚ Being this far from the yard comes with some additional considerations as far as service. I think they would probably apply in most cases even if you are 5 miles from the yard.

When fluids are getting low, I call 48 hours prior to entering the critical zone just to give them a heads up.

I insist on spare fuel lines, belts, filters being available for the generator. I do not mind doing an emergency minor repair. If you are not mechanically inclined, just skip this step.

I keep 2 5 gallon fuel cans full of diesel on the generator trailer which belong to me. In a pinch, they will extend my generator run time 1 day+ and the service guy can refill them his next time out. If I don't need them, I can dump them in the MH tank when we move locations and re-fill them at some point to keep the fuel fresh.

I make contact with every vendor delivering supplies to the rig as I am sure everyone else does. It takes ONE extra step to ask them if I had an emergency where my service guy could not make it out for several days --could they help out? All of them said a splash of diesel or some potable water would not be a problem.

The rig has adequate supplies of both diesel and water. In a real pinch, I am sure the Company many would send someone down with 50 gal of diesel or 100 gal of water. This is NOT something I would ask for unless we were really in a bind as it reflects poorly on the way I (and GGS) do business.

I joke with the service guy and my supervisor about me calling them... I tell them if they ever get a call from me outside of the normal service window heads up type call, they better be dialing 911 for me next because it is a serious emergency! ๐Ÿ™‚

Face it, many of us are in fairly remote locations and the logistics of supplying all of our needs must be formidable. Just by the nature of our jobs, I think some resilience and resourcefulness is called for on our parts as part of the job.

Just remember-- this job doesn't suit everybody.

Mark,

Most of my blog entries from last year were from an EOG gate. We liked all of the EOG guys and the way they did business. This was all up in the Barnett Shale. I would work for them again without hesitation UNLESS it was their new program where you are attached to a frac crew and follow them from pad to pad.

We're working EOG gate up north. Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to, but have been meaning to ask the same question, in case anyone else wants to chime in too! ๐Ÿ™‚

We follow them around, so it's steady work. And it is *steady work*, sometimes there's 1-3 hours at night with no one here, but often not. The EOG company men have been good to work with. The EOG outsiders that come in.. Some we don't much care for, but they're mostly fine too. Had to invest in FRCs and some PPE, as they're required on site. And speaking of that, the hardest thing has been the huge safety list that they want us to go over with every single person who comes in the gate, every single time! They're coming down hard on GGS that the guards need to do it or they'll switch contractors I guess, but the EOG folks on site unofficially imply that they want us to just read it to those we don't recognize because otherwise we'd be out there all day backing traffic up halfway to the main road. Everyone grimaces at this list, including the company men, but the higher ups at EOG are very serious about it! So it's been difficult balancing that, but otherwise we're pretty happy with this as a first gate.. Probably gonna stick it out here till the end of the month then see about having someone fill in for a few days if you want to come north and experience it for yourself ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow..that is really getting low on diesel!! I think they need to add some extra service guys. They each have so many to service, if they are not fast workers, they really get behind.
We like to have our area cleared off for our dogs and also so we aren't so exposed to mice and snakes, so we bought a big weed-eater that even has a blade to clear bushes if needed...gives Hubby something to do.
We were so used to having such excellent service from Jimmy, but I don't think he will be back. So far our new service guys are doing good, but Jamie is out there working pretty hard also.

Jamie makes sure his service men are doing a good job. I got a call from our service man and he said he would be out first thing Friday morning(third time he promised this week to be out the next morning)
so I put off calling Jay. Well he got here about 7 PM not AM only brought 50 gal of diesel and no water. We still had about 200 gal and he said he would back in 2 days with diesel and water. If not this time I will not call him but will call Jay. This is our 2nd service man since October in the same place. The first was even worse than this one.

I ams sorry you have all but given up on the forum please come back, there is a wealth of information and its good to have friends you can talk to. I am sorry about posting the PM that I received but I really wanted everyone to see the type of person that LivinGood obviously is. I had read some of his other posts and believe me that has to be one unhappy, miserable person. May God bless him and let him learn to love himself so he won't be so negative all the time.

Texan
Yes I agree, once I read the PM he sent me I thought wow did I do something wrong. So I went to some of his posts and read them. I am so sorry he is so miserable. Wish I could meet him and maybe give him a friend so he wouldn't be so lonely and have to be so negative all the time.

Hey folks, one bit of information about rattle snakes, they love heat and vibration. Be very careful when you go around your generator and especially when you open the door to check the oil. Ask your rig crew about all the rattlers they find under the various buildings and rig when they breakdown for a move. At one of our sites, near Helena, they found dozens under the various units as they pulled them onto the trucks.

Don, forget those PMs, and if you want to see his true colors, go read some of his post....:B.....There is a blocking feature on the PM page.

I really like this forum and there is a lot of good information on here..then every now and then there has to be some smart----(pardon me)that has to get funny. Well sending a private message because you do not have the guts to put it on the forum for everyone to see just doesn't sit with me. If you want information or have something possitive to add then by all means feel free to PM me. But to get a PM like the one LivinGood sent to me just don't make sence.
I posted about not getting service because I feel that being way out in nowhere they should take care of us, I know Jamie would if we were working out of his yard. We were to work out of his yard but Roger needed help so we agreed to help him.
I did post about getting the******scared out of me by a large Rattler.
The stupid comments PM'd me by LivinGood is way out of reason.
LivinGood's PM to me.
Well....hmmmmm Girlyman....I sure hope the SNAKES don't get you.

This is one of the primary reasons I all but stopped visiting this RV forum. The gate guarding sub-forum is all I read these days to keep up with what my gate guarding brothers and sisters are up to.

Far too many cranky retirees with nothing better to do than flame the rest of us. Just ignore the trolls and they'll go away eventually. Easier said than done, I know.

We have had a couple large rattle snakes near the unit in last couple of days but nothing on the step...thanks goodness.
My wife introduced me to wax ear plugs for sleeping at night. I tried them and for the last 4 nights I have had uninterupted sleep with the exception of MOTHER Nature!!!! So if you hear the bell all night or day when you want to sleep try the wax ear plugs. It is a different world.

Wind came through an blew everything around this morning then a little rain that got stuff damp. SO that is my intro to work today.

Hope Chance gets here to fill up my diesel and water tank but figure they are trying to wait until Monday when we leave the gate. It has been a very good one. Nice people and location.

I am new to GGS. Who is Jay? Is this person the same as Jamie at the Whitsett yard? How far out in the boonies are you? For our future reference only in case we have troubles.
