Have you worked for any of the Big 3 gate guard companies?
...........Yes , and all GG companies are different ! Some want to micromanage and some have enough sense too allow their hires too use their own common sense and creativity when solving problems . , jf

GGup wrote:Well, they are now using service people in trucks due to the lack of guards. I manned a gate alone as an emergency fill in for ten days. That was about my limit. You really need a closet full of clean clothes and cabinets full of groceries before you start. The ability to cat nap is a bonus. My company was very supportive and offered to get me relief if I needed it. A lot of guards/companies arrange for some one to relieve them for shopping or laundry when working alone. As an aside; let me say that showers and bathroom breaks can be challenging when working alone. ๐
As for a single person on a gate....I do not know how that works...Not the norm but because of the need...there are people trying to man the gate being single person.

Blondie Girl wrote:Well; if you're getting paid more, so what. Actually, we have found the gates we work to be quite similar to the "lower paid" gates. Our equipment has been first rate, too. As I have said previously, loyalty or whatever is keeping you where you are, is admirable. I; however, am here to make money and an extra paycheck a month goes a long way. Just sayin'!
It seems like the guard companies that are paying higher have some very busy gates, so think about it before you change over. More money might mean a lot more work.

Well, after 3 rigs with GGS, that certainly hasn't been our experience. Jamie and all the support people have always been very responsive to anything we need.
As far as the "low pay", LOMA told us in April they were no longer paying $150, just $125 for all new hires. And from talking to other gate guards we know, it seems like the higher the pay, the lower the service and support.
It seems that Loma has no real base pay based on what we experienced with them and what we've heard from other Gate Guards working/or did work for Loma.
As for poor service Loma's maintenance man we understand was terminate from Timekeepers which had developed a reputation for poor service. At one time Loma's fuel and water delivery was being handled by one person trying to service about 60 gates. You never really knew when he was going to show up.
