Installing standard household toilet in a RV??

I know it sounds like a silly question, and I agree.

But, have some friends that are thinking of going the rv lifestyle in the near future. He has no problems jumping in both feet, but she just insists she cannot live with a RV toilet. There is no logic here, and no amount of talking is going to change her mind. It is probably a deal breaker.

So, snoozing in my lazy-boy, the thought occurred to me about installing a standard toilet. I am not an expert at any of this stuff, so I need some insight as to whether or not it would be do-able.

Again, don't need arguements for or against doing it, just if it would work.

Thanks

an rv toilet is a dealer breaker? ๐Ÿ™‚ then she doesn't want to rv probably.

high end porcelin bowl is best way to go.

sounds to me if the toilet bowl situation gets fixed, she will find another reason right after that.

I would think that if she wants to have a residental toilet she should be the one that empties the black water tank every day and pulls the blue container down to the dump station. And cleans it out.
That might change her mind if reasoning will not.
I am assuming that the amount of water used would fill up the tanks every day.
And perhaps someone shoulld explain what happens when the black water tank overflows. She could clean that mess up also.

One of my camping buddy's, and his name happens to be Buddy has done just that in his Class A for the very same reason, the wife insisted. He bought a used big DP and the wife hated the RV throne and insisted on a residential model for whatever reason. I believe he took it to Dues in Dickenson to have it done.

He shuts off the water to it and drains the tank and bowl (uses a cleaning brush to force the water out of the bowl) before he hits the road.

Therefore, it can be and has been done.

How does he keep the smell from the black tank out of the RV with no water in the trap?

Uhhhh Dutch - you forgot that some people's stuff don't stink. :B

Yaaa I think there is some kind of cop out without saying, "I ain't going Rving".

My guess is that the wife has other issues, and the "RV toilet is a deal breaker" is just a method to avoid RVing.

How about getting a new wife.

There are RV toilets that work almost exactly like household toilets. We have two in our rig. The rear bath toilet is a macerator toilet, you push a button on the wall and it flushes and refills. The center half bath is a push button RV toilet, again, push the button on the toilet it flushes and refills. They are both standard home height. The standard will cost you around $200 and the macerator a little bit more.

And I can't believe that connection from the tank to the bowl doesn't occasionally work loose. My next Q would be...Would a wife that picky really enjoy the RV life?

There are some high end diesel pushers which will have a residential toilet, but be prepared to pay upwards of $250,000 for that.

Yes it will work, as long as you don't drive the RV on the road or move it at all.

OK, that's is what I was looking for.

Hadn't thought about moving down the road. We seldom move our 5er anymore, so I've forgotten some things. Although, I am thinking the tank could be drained before heading out, it still is a problem.

Perhaps the best idea would be to find a unit where the toilet is not setting directly over the tank. I think her main issue is opening directly into the tank. Maybe if it were offset, she wouldn't mind so much. Then again, maybe she is using the toilet issue as a reason to not go RVing period.

I don't think he will drag her into one, kicking and screaming, so it probably won't happen. Too bad.

Thanks for the insight.

I'm with the other posters. Fool the misses with a top of the line fancy full sized, made for adults, RV toilet.

You said you didn't want agruments. I'll go against the gain here and say it ... It won't work. It is like using a red flyer wagon to drive to Toledo. Yes it is physically possible with enough work, but it no it won't practically work.

Get a tall porcelain bowl with a foot flush and tell her to fill the bowl before she sits down, or fill it for her maybe she won't notice what kind it is.
