It was a good day - NOT!

This is a good post to remind us to check out our valve stems.

The tire can be just fine, But, if the valve stem is old and rotten then you will still have a problem.

Been there done that. Day after I bought my first used MH I had one blowout on the road and 2 more flats the next day while driving in Houston with 112 degree temps. Long running time and high heat just melted those **** rubber valve stems. Tow truck driver was the one that pointed out the rubber valve stems where melting. Pulled into the first tire shop and had them all replaced with stainless steel ones.

Sorry bud, only thing get hot enough maybe to melt rubber is a bad bearing or hung up brake. If your rim was hot enough to melt the valve stems that far from the bearings or hub, then the valve stems were the least of your troubles.

They melted because the Chinese did not vulcanize them properly and little to no uv compound.
We lost four new Michelins on our F150 a few years ago because of the stems. Wholeseller replaced the tires and stems.
There are some still out there.
The push through valve stems with a copper stem inside rubber are no better. Had two or three of them stepped on or bent and the others leaking. Go the extra chnge and get bolt through stainless steel stems and not the long ones either.

We bought the trailer used last winter. Planned on putting new tires as we were heading on a longer trip in August. At least it happened in my side driveway. The beer worked! Fixed a couple other small issues and no glitches there.

Lets not forget;
5. Unable to afford the luxury of an RV
6. Not having the health to deal with these issues
7. Not having the freedom to enjoy these opportunities
8. Not having friends/family to go RV'ing with.

Circumstances like these are not fun, but kudos to the OP for having the perspective to realize how fortunate he is to be able to experience these annoyances!!!

NO sir. I may have used a bit of Poetic license using the one word melting.

They were failing and split due to the extreme heat AND the fact that the previous owner had put "rubber car valve stems" on all the tires of a heavy truck. There are requirements on which valve stems are put on what vehicles. The ones that were on my RV where the INCORRECT valve stems.

And IMHO from experience it is just one more think one should check when purchasing a used RV. Sadly I will admit I did not. I picked the RV up on Friday and Saturday morning I was headed to Houston! :C
