Janes Island State Park, MD

We will be camp hosting at Janes the month of April. It will be our first camp host experience. We drove threw the park last summer while staying at Pocomoke State Park, it looks beautiful. If anyone has stayed at Janes please let me know what you thought of the park.

Janes Island is by far my favorite park in Maryland. We use to go there all the time.

If you're coming from the west (Crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-not bridge/tunnel) and need an overnight stop, try the Elks in Kent Island. Like most Elks, it's not fancy but RV parking on the eastern shore is scarce and it's quiet and affordable. You don't have to be a member and Kent Island is a really pretty area to explore for a day or two.

We have volunteered there twice. Wonderful bunch of people to work with. So many opportunities in the park to use your skills. Crisfield is a really neat little town, everybody knows everybody else. There is no sewer for the hosts but the dump is next to the volunteer site. We had the use of golf cart or electric gator which easily pulled our 35 gallon tote tank. It is one of the best places we have been. Always a breeze coming in from Tangier Sound. We rode our bikes in to town (2 Miles) So much to do in the area. My wife and I volunteered there several years ago. We only stayed for one month because they didn't have sewer hookups. The rangers and staff were very nice. We were campground hosts. We also got involved with other small projects. Repairing screens on the cabins, painting water handles. At night we would check the bath houses for supplies. Over all a great park and a great time.

Really nice park. Excellent canoeing. Good fishing I am told. I like it because it doesn't get crowded and there is a lot of open space. Didn't have any problems with bugs - the breeze off the water takes care of that (unless you are camped back in the trees). Storms can blow up quickly - don't leave your awning open overnight or when away from your site for a while. Have a great experience! You probably won't see many people during the week and may have the park to yourselves.

Very nice park, rangers were friendly and helpful. We were there last april,good month to avoid the bugs they tell me.Next time we will bring a boat
