Question for the Vu Qube or Tripod dish users, do you guys bring your setup in before going to sleep at night or do you leave it out all night while at the RV park ? Going to be doing my first trip soon and did not know whether it was safe to leave my Qube out on top of the 5er al night or should I bring it in before going to sleep so it does not walk off ?

kinda off the subject just a funny story about my wife her uncle and his dish. He only place he could get a signal was with his dish on top of our f'ver what with all the trees. He would use a picnic table to stand on to adjust it. So every so often my wife would give his cable a tug then wait for uncle to show up. All different times of day and time. The best we had all gone out to eat and she got back early and did the tug thing then the entire family got together for the rest of the evening. As we all settled in for the night there is uncle outside standing on the picnic table and the dw starts in loudly about the peeping tom outside of her bedroom somebody trying to look in at us. before long all aunts and uncles and cousins are there ribbing poor spunky about peeking at his niece. He kept right on adjusting until he got a good picture, he slept with the tv on. We still tease him years later, had a lot of fun with her family!!!

Sorry! :B

They also have a pretty neat new one that mounts on the window of the TV and one that mounts up by the gutter of the RV.

They make a shelf attachment for the top of your ladder for the cube and it comes with an additional lock. I guess for the REAL serious crook who would climb up your ladder.:R

I have never seen them on the ground, every one I have seen over the past 2 years have been mounted on the top of the ladder with the optional ladder mount bracket. I personally would not leave home with my RV without a ladder mount for the Cube.

Here's the King Control Diagram of it. You can also buy them at Radio Shacks that are located in a touristy area where there are a lot of seasonal RV's.

Can't hurt to get a security chain or a thick steel cable at the minimum. Might as well keep honest people honest.

I leave mine out and have never had a problem. But I have my TH parked several months next to the park hosts and other long term occupants.

I agree that if it is on top of your fiver, no one is going after it.

The subject of theft has been discussed here many times. I have concluded that in general, if the object in question, no matter what it is, is brand spanking new, then there is good chance someone will try to liberate it. Some thieves just can't help themselves around new stuff.

Case in point, I put new plastic fenders on my boat trailer. I went to a local lake and used the county owned boat launch. There is a guard at the gate, but nowhere else. When I returned, one fender was gone, and the other was 90% removed. I guess some people use the local landing as their parts depot. The fenders only cost about a $100, but they were too good for somebody to resist.

A new VuCube could have the same effect on the right thief.

I secure my Carryout every time I use it with a 3/8" security cable. I place the Carryout on the ground most of the time but I also secure it the few times I place it on the roof.

we leave our VuQube mounted on a tripod out .... it is secured with a cable to a tree or some other such object .... if somebody was to take the VuQube, it would be useless to them unless they have a remote that is on the same frequency .... in our camping club there are 5 VuQubes .... we've tested then and none of them can be run with someone else's remote

Unless you like setting it up every day, I'd leave it up. More likely it will get ripped off during the day when your not at the trailer than when your in it sleeping.

Nobody is going to take it off the top of your 5er. It will be fine. You'll see dishes all over the CG. The cubes and such are often cabled to something secure when they are on the ground, though. I bought an overhead dog run just to get the 50' cable. I use it when I feel the need.

I always worried about an unexpected big wind blowing it off the roof.
