Well not much detail about this RV crash, but my assumption is that headed west on Hwy 26 in Beaverton, they were headed for the Oregon Coast. Very sad.

Doing the armchair accident investigator routine....

That is your most likely cause. This is right after Hwy 217 merges in with Hwy 26. It is a congested area. Even when traffic is flowing, it is not uncommon for someone to zip in and out of traffic lanes. Many of them don't realize the RV bearing down on them doesn't stop & maneuver like their little car can. The RV may have wrecked to avoid a problem caused by a different driver.

Yup, total conjecture on my part, I admit that. But knowing that stretch of road, I would be surprised if the RV operator was the sole cause of the accident.

Tanks have emergency shutoffs in the event of a sudden change in flow. They do work, I can vouch for it firsthand from when I totaled an old Prowler years ago.

The check valve would not engage unless the pigtail was ripped open between the Acme nut and regulator. If the only thing damaged in the crash was a gas line or two beyond the regulator you would still have a gas leak. That leak however would only be @19" WC or around 1/2 psi. You would smell it but it would not be the calamity the news media or some on RV boards would lead you to believe. Its not going to blow up a city block such as a high pressure transmission line ripped out with an excavator. If you lit the trailer line it would burn like a large candle.
