Lubricating hitch and WDH bars

Question

Hi,First time for this one so I'm asking if I have this correct.I have been told that I need to lubricate my trailer hitch and the notches where the bars from my weight distribution hitch fit into the hitch itself.  I have bought some silicone spray and intend to spray the ball and the socket where the ball fits.  I'm also going to spray the upper and lower notches where the bars connect (not the part of the WDH where the bars sit near the trailer (where the cotter pins go)).Is this correct?  Want to make sure before I pull the trigger.  As always, thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

We use several layers of wax paper on the ball and red grease on the hitch parts. This has been discussed at length. Search for `wax paper' for more.

You are correct about where to lubricate...but I would look for something other than silicone spray....It's just not heavy enough for the job.

Use some, "real" grease. I use this available lots of places. I got it at Walmart. One jar lasts forever.

I generally do not use anything.  Might someday but to date have not.
