MAGELLAN ROADMATE RV9145 GLITCH

Plug it in and fully charge battery--green light.
Keep it plugged in while using and, after 15 minutes or so, it wants to shut down because battery is getting depleted, even though not running on battery. I cancel the shutdown if I notice the message but it eventually shuts down.
3 questions:
Has this happened to you and what did you do to fix it?
Does this unit have a history of similar glitches?
Can this be repaired on line if it's a hardware/software problem?

I now have 2 GPS units and 2 factory cables. Both units work from the good cable. Both will charge from the bad cable if they are turned off but if they are turned on they will run down the battery and shut down after a while.
Hopefully you have the same problem and a new power cable fixes the problem.

DOTLDaddy-OOPS- Beer does that.
Jpatrick--I didn't think of the cord. I'll see if I have another.

I have the same GPS and had the same problem. It turns out my problem was a bad power cord. It would charge the GPS but if I had the unit turned on it could not provide enough power to run the unit and after a while it would shut down. I replaced the power cord/adapter and it works fine now.

Uhhh . . . . it's DOTLDaddy, not DOTLady! :o:W:B

In any case, it's certainly possible you've gotten a lemon. Is it still under warranty?

My guess is the internal battery is bad. If it has a bad cell, for instance, the external power can't provide enough voltage to run the unit, nor enough current to charge the bad battery, with the unit turned on.

I tried 3 different plugs--no difference. It seems to recognize the power to charge but doesn't recognize it to run.
DOTLADY--You're lucky. Mine also has real problems with the touch screen. Most of the time, I have to hit the same icon several times.

Same issue/different brand. Turned out it wasn't making a good connection in the cigarette lighter duplexer I was using.

Are you sure it's getting power while you're using it? It sure sounds like the cord is intermittently off. Maybe the cigarette lighter plug part (assuming you're using a 12V cord) isn't fully seating in the socket; they can be rather persnickety at times. It's also possible that the connector on the GPS end isn't seated well or the wire has a poor connection from being bent too much there.

In general, if the GPS is sometimes complaining of and acting like it's running on (and running out of) battery power, I'd tend to believe it unless I had very good evidence to the contrary.

I have that same GPS, and I have never experienced the problem you are describing. I hope you get it straightened out.

On a side note, I love mine.

Does the unit have lifetime maps?
Did you update recently?
Could the unit be overheating?

You could reset the unit to factory default BUT if you do not have lifetime maps you will be sunk UNLESS you have an old back up stashed somewhere
