MI AAA announced this morning

Just as the law makers in Lansing get ready to tackle the $4.29 a gallon price for gas here in MI. It's announced by AAA that the refinery in IL that was causing the problem is back up running after 2 months this morning but don't expect the prices to fall very fast since another refinery in IN is still down.

One of the big factors that will bring prices down here in Michigan is politics I'm afraid.. Though this is not a political post.

Seems the State Senate is looking into the matter. Seems Michigan is paying more than any other state and the Senate is starting to think like I do.

Those excuses the oil companies are giving for gouging us. are just that, Excuses, and do not hold gasoline.. And the gasoline should be placed squarly under their behinds (Metaphorically speaking that is) and ignighted (Light a fire under them, again metaphorically).

The government is considering action. Been done in the past too. So perhaps we will see 2.00 gas to make up for it in the near furture.. IF justice is to be served we should.

NOTE that in S.E. Michigan... Much of what is burned is refined in Detroit and comes from Canada not from the middle east, Not from the refineries that were shut down but from S.W. (Downriver) Detroit. So the excuses are false the oil companies are lying and we are getting gouged.

Oh well.. I hope the government does the right thing and nails their wallets.

Rexlion,

Use GasBuddy to find the best place to fuel before you get to Michigan. When you are home-bound, fuel just enough to clear the state.

Look for gas discounts from Discover, Amex and Kroger.

This is how we are saving the season.

Nice theory, but right now Michigan has just about the highest gas prices in the country with a nowhere near the best economy. Just because the auto makers are doing good, doesn't mean that it has trickled down to Main street.

Prices are really wacky lately. For the past 2-3 weeks, gas price has been up to and above the diesel price unstead of the usual 10-15% spread. Gas has been running $3.70-$3.85, up from around $3.25 previously. Yet I just drove to SC and back last week, and nowhere were gas prices as high as here in OK. (We usually have some of the lower gas prices in the nation.) In AR, MS, AL and SC I typically saw and paid prices from $3.25 to $3.16/gallon. GA was more like $3.45-$3.60, but still not as high as here in OK.

We're supposed to head to MI next week. Not looking forward to the pumps up that way!

the refineries just use that as a reason. the real thing is they can charge what ever they want. theres no control on the price of gas.

You hear different stories. Winter blend cost more to refine. Summer blend cost more to refine. Refinery is operating under reduced capacity due to routine maintenance. All i know is in our area, diesel has a wide price range. $4.45 PLUS down in some spots, to $3.85 in other. Reg gas $4.45 plus to $4.06. Right now we are running around in my truck, as it is cheeper to operate than our Lincoln, as they both get around 20 MPG.
